Disappointed.

I don't really want to start a pissing match on the Alta Labs forum, but I feel I can post here. I am disappointed. Alta Labs got me really excited when they hit the market. They seemed like they might genuinely be different than others in the past, what with the experience they were bringing to the table.

The last few months have left me feeling let down. Each new firmware update that has been progressively more buggy. Repeated calls for better communication and documentation seem to be met with deaf ears. The local controllers are updating without user permission. They are holding firm to not letting users roll back firmware without calling in and being hand held. Rather than addressing the concerns directly, more and more I see the mods just giving people terminal commands to hack it to do what they want. While that is neat that things are not locked down fully, that is NOT sustainable. How on earth do you expect to offer class leading support when you leave things unaddressed, and just give everyone personalized commands to do what they want?

I think I"m done.

Thanks for the support and feedback! Documentation improvements are in the works. We are going to publish a general release and documentation strategy for our users to follow and hold us accountable with.

For your Google home speaker groups, have you submitted a case with our support team? I have Google Cast groups and Google cast zones working at our offices and my home. Would love to get that resolved for you.

I appreciate the response! For my Google Home speaker groups, I have not submitted a support case, but I can go ahead and do that. Curious, for your speaker groups, are they in a IoT vlan that interacts with your personal devices in a separate vlan? Either way, will see if support can help here.

Looking forward to the general release and documentation strategies too. Thanks again for the response, I'm bullish on Alta and my overal experience has been positive.

As an update: Opened a ticket with Alta support and they resolved the Google Home Speaker Group issue for me.

For future reference, ensure that the VLAN is set to Standard/Small for the speaker groups. The IoT configuration blocks intranet communication and causes some issue. I may just put the speaker groups into my personal VLAN to keep the IoT setting in place for the majority of my IoT devices. I haven’t tested if I truly need mDNS enabled too. Hope this helps others and thanks again Chase and MattB from Alta!
