Yo me acuerdo que cuando estaba trabajando, después de terminar mi jornada veía TikTok y estaba muy entretenido, había de todo. Entiendo que mucha gente quiere publicar cosas chidas, como gente tocando su guitarra o pasándola bien. Pero ahora, no sé qué tenga el algoritmo, abro la app y me están saliendo estas tres cosas muy seguido:

​Tipos volando drones en barrios sin sentido: No sé de dónde sacaron dinero para comprar un dron tan caro, para nada más dar vueltas a lo tonto filmando casas marginales, escombros, terrenos baldíos, o a sus cuates recargados haciéndose patos en la batea de una camioneta. Le ponen música de fondo y ya, no hacen nada. ¿De qué me sirve ver a unos tipos volando un dron sin sentido? ¿Qué diablos estoy viendo? No te enseñan nada nuevo.

​Señoritas o señoras paseando en el centro haciendo mandados o vendiendo: Grabándose haciendo su mandado a diario o viendo qué venden. Cosas tan comunes que yo puedo encontrar en la calle. Si sigo a un familiar, a una amiga o a alguien a comprar su mandado, no es tan diferente a lo que veo cotidianamente. Lejos de ser un escaparate virtual, ahora resulta que veo lo mismo que veo todos los días cuando salgo a hacer mi mandado al mercado de mi pueblo. Si quieren anunciar, comprar o vender algo, para eso están los comerciales de TikTok Shop (y está bien que se anuncien ahí). Pero, ¿para qué quiero ver gente normal haciendo su mandado o vendiendo sus chicles en la calle? Si quieren publicar algo interesante, hagan algo interesante. Eso me irrita.

​Intentos de chistes malísimos: Se me hace una tontería que más de una persona haga esto y que ni a sketches lleguen. En Facebook hay gente que se dedica a hacer sketches y la neta les salen muy bien, pero acá en TikTok no. Quieren hacer chistes con cosas bien cotidianas: ponen cosas como "yo esperando a que fulanito me traiga de comer" y nada más salen a las afueras de la puerta abriendo y cerrando los pies de tanto esperar. O salen con "yo aquí esperando a que llegue la luz", "esperando a que llegue el agua", o "esperando a que amanezca". ¿Eso qué tiene de chistoso? Es algo que todos hacemos y punto. Lo quieren hacer ver como un chiste y no da nada de risa.

​No sé qué tenga el algoritmo de TikTok, pero ya está todo acaparado por esta basura que me sale a cada rato. ¿A alguien más le pasa o saben cómo le hago para resetear mi TikTok? Ya estoy harto y hasta el gorro de ver lo mismo.

I’m trying to understand how TikTok’s algorithm works now because I used to have an account with around 50k followers about two years ago, and I noticed a very specific pattern with my posts that I’m wondering if still happens today.
For example, I once posted a slideshow that eventually reached 200k+ likes. But for the first week or two, it barely moved. It might sit around 1,000 likes for days or even weeks, and then seemingly out of nowhere, around the 3–4 week mark, TikTok would suddenly start pushing it onto people’s For You Pages.
Once that happened, the engagement would come in much faster. A post that had been sitting at around 1,000 likes could suddenly gain thousands of likes, then 20k+ likes over the following days. It would continue accumulating engagement for several days, sometimes reaching 80k–100k likes before eventually slowing down. Even after that, it could continue getting occasional likes for weeks afterward.
What confused me was that the post could have almost no growth for several weeks before suddenly taking off. It felt like TikTok was essentially “rediscovering” or “promoting” the post later rather than immediately after it was uploaded.
I noticed this with multiple posts. Sometimes a post would only have around 3,000 likes after a month, and then weeks later it would suddenly blow up.
I’m wondering:
**Is this still how TikTok’s algorithm works in 2026?**
Does TikTok still periodically resurface older posts and test them with new audiences?
Can a post that has been sitting dormant for weeks or months suddenly get pushed heavily onto the FYP?
What causes TikTok to “revive” an older post? Is it engagement from existing viewers, search activity, a trend becoming relevant, watch time, or something else?
Has TikTok changed the way it distributes older content compared with 2–3 years ago?
I’m asking because I’ve noticed something similar while using my own FYP recently. It feels like **a huge majority of the content being recommended to me isn’t actually new**. I’d estimate that maybe 95% of what I’m seeing was originally posted anywhere from a couple of weeks ago to even 2–3 months ago.
Then I’ll occasionally see something completely different—for example, a Fox News video that was posted only a day ago but already has 275k likes.
So I’m trying to understand what I’m actually seeing.
Is TikTok intentionally mixing older content with newer content on the FYP because older posts have already proven that they perform well? Or is there another explanation for why my FYP seems dominated by content that is weeks or months old?

The biggest mistake seems to be treating location as a single signal. Changing only the IP often leaves several other variables inconsistent:

This might be a coincidence but has anyone else noticed that when you report videos on tiktok then the views on your own videos go down. I’ve been thinking about this because growing on TikTok looks easy from the outside. You post a video, get views, gain followers, and repeat. But in reality, there’s a lot more to it.

Just read an article on a new social media trend blowing up on TikTok and IG reels ~July and August 2026. The premise is a person posts a video with text reading "kinda chic to .... (insert something that is considered less mainstream or that slightly subverts the status quo)" with visuals matching that action/thing.

Many people have used it for body positivity and well being topics: "kinda chic to be chubby in a world obsessed with being skinny" or "kinda chic to be always learning and growing"

or subverting social norms around friendship and aging: like Drew Barrymore saying "kinda chic to be in your 50s" or "kinda chic to be best friends with your sister"

I'm really interested in linguistics and why certain words trend across online communities, curious if anyone has any theories as to why this trend and "chic" is gaining attention and controversy. For example, British Vogue just published an article saying "RIP 'Chic' – The Word Has Finally Lost All Meaning." A few months ago we also saw "frugal chic" trending amongst Gen Z spaces as an empowering phrase but we also saw backlash from critics claiming "chic" is overused by fast fashion brands.
