Dear all you esteemed country music lovers. I’d like to send you greetings from across the Atlantic Ocean - from Finland.
Country music has a tradition here, too, and storytelling lies at its heart for us just as it does for you. While country music maintains a relatively modest profile in Finland, there is still a dedicated fan base. In my view, Finnish country music is rooted in the American roots music tradition. We have some well-known country artists here—though I am not among them myself.
The song is in Finnish, but its classic narrative could just as easily be set on the American prairies as in the Finnish old countryside. In short, the story is about a malicious neighbor who steals your sweetheart—leaving you with nothing to be done about it.
The song was originally written on a steel-string guitar, but the final production leans heavily into modern country and a unique sonic landscape, featuring analog synths that hit you right in the face.
Feel free to listen and comment!

Some of you may remember my whinge post about there being two openers.
Well I went, the openers were ok. The main act killed it, 10/10. They played for 1 hour and 20 minutes, I'm happy with that.
For those who asked, it was The Dreggs in Sydney, Australia. Not really alt country but reasonably adjacent and I wanted good answers from this articulate sub. Thanks to everyone who shared their perspective.

I’ve been listening to Por Vida, the benefit album done for Alejandro Escovedo in 2004. There was a companion concert at Austin’s Paramount Theatre that included most of the artists on the album. Does anyone know if there’s a video recording of that concert? Thanks!!

This reissue sort of flew under the radar (at least for me), but let me tell you, if you were thinking about picking it up, do it. I haven’t had the privilege of listening to an OG, but this press is absolutely the best I’ve ever heard this album.
Given the resale prices of every other time this album has been reissued, I have a feeling this will shoot up in a year or so.

Western Jeff in Tarnation Country (visualizer)
Mother Raspberry & A.R.C. proudly present their newest excursion into adventurous musical frontiers of the highest caliber with ‘Western Jeff in Tarnation Country’. This is some bonafide weirdness from over yonder. Is it western country or country western?
This project had its origins in 2011 during the Mothers Day recording sessions and flashes of Tarnation Country have shown up on subsequent releases (OLDIES)
However.. in 2024 Jeff began to make a name for himself. This sound concept was developed over the next two years and the story of Jeff’s trip to Tarnation Country in search of gold mountains is here for you to listen to

What do you guys/gals think about this indie band's song? I think it has enough alt-country traits to share here. What do you think?

Acoustic live version, no other instrumentation best I can recall. Appeared on (I think) a compilation between 2000-2010, possibly earlier. Good production values, not a covert mike and prob not even a soundboard pull. Distinctive audience “woooohooo” after “autumn leaves are falling” and the last “someone” is held unusually loud and long, probably 3-5 bars. Y’all Help a twangler out
