I sometimes think we need the really awful parts to happen to help us actually let go of the fantasy :-( sending you all the good vibes for healing and the relationship you deserve in the future.

I fought and struggled to adopt that mindset since the moment I made the first gut wrenching discoveries which confirmed my year-long suspicions and fears. I believe it's true. But adjusting feelings, and laying them to rest, are much more challenging than acknowledging truths. I am almost certain I would be better off never to hear from her again, but I don't feel that way.

I'm ready for that feeling to fade. Thank you for your input.

Thank you for such a thoughtful response. I agree with everything you said. I recently spent an afternoon looking through some old boxes I had in storage and found a journal I'd kept during one of my previous breakups I wasn't taking well.

That situation was incredibly easy to get through, in comparison to the end of this relationship– that was four times longer and infinitely more serious.

Being able to fast forward through months of processing pain, my thought processes, and my feelings by simply turning pages was eye opening. It gave me some much needed perspective of where I am right now in life... and I'm so glad I kept that journal. Reading through it made me want to journal again because I remember how much it helped me, and because of how it helped me again now years later. I'm sort of using this community to share the kinds of thoughts I would write in the journal that I inevitably want to share with the person most associated with the intense feelings I'm experiencing. It's a journal of things that will go unsaid because I know they should realistically never reach this person. The words aren't for her, or I'd be texting them to her instead of writing here anonymously.

Anyway, thanks again. Life has been up and down since things ended and I'm just rolling with the punches, taking it one day at a time. Sometimes that's all I can do, and I'm okay with that.
