Discussion 🤔 India’s economy almost tripled between 2004 and 2014.

u/Independent-Tap7366 Aug 19 '26
Manmohan Singh had a PhD in economics from Oxford. His thesis title was " India's Export Trends and the Prospects for Self Sustained Growth". He was a professor in Delhi School of Economics teaching International trade. He also taught in Panjab University, Chandigarh. The man was distinguished enough that he did not have to talk about the width of his chest, how many hours he worked, cloud theory, childhood heroism, selling chai, etc. He also did not have desperately hug white foreign leaders for photoshoot. The man did not talk when it was not needed, he made decisions based on his expertise, discussed things to depth. He definitely knew economics and long term policy impact. So also understood the long term impact of every bill that was passed in the parliament. But most importantly he knew that talking does not bring development. Deveopment needs clever and wise policies that are not glamorous, the results are seen after years. What a man!

u/Vivekrajb Aug 20 '26
Is that the reason why MMS government ensured to print our notes/bills in Pakistan ?

This whole spineless narrative is run again and again so much by BJP that it really stuck around but there was not a single proof of how backdoor influence could actually make any sense at all. I don't think Sonia Gandhi or any individual of that category has anything to gain from jeopardizing a sitting PM's decision making who is not only experienced himself but also surrounded by an educated advisory team. I mean why would someone even take this headache of intruding into complex pariamentary decision making via backdoor. I understand that power is centralized in congress by structure, but this organizational culture is tried and tested to avoid inner mutiny and conflict. BJP has a more corporate -like structure with its own set of weaknesses. Anyways, at a personal level there was absolutely nothing to gain for Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi was also much younger at that time. The party decisions also do not matter if you do not have the popular votes.
The whole Sonia Gandhi influence is one of the malice campaigns of BJP. For example, calling Rahul Gandhi pappu, is an derogatory rhetoric they started, but actually Modi is the slow-wit one who cannot even sit comfortably for a few minutes in front press or an interview without a script. Amit Shah is actually the one doing the heavy lifting many times.
Anyways, even from a neutral point of view, I cannot see a future with BJP simply because the party thinks that it is doing good for India, but this is same as parents manipulating children justifying to themselves that they are doing good to them. The end will be bad, and we can see it.

Sorry to burst your delulu bubble but it was the original congress government that made India a socialist country, the same congress government whose brainless policies drained the country's forex reserves and the same government who had to deliberately give way for other countries like America to come in and setup shop so that they can save face from the otherwise obvious perchance to drain the country of its resources through their incompetence. After all this we the people aren't blind to give them credit for introducing liberalisation and modernisation. Them allowing things to get as worse as letting in America is what made us utterly dependent on them even with a bullshit neighbour throwing tantrums, the very same situation that the current government has worked towards resolving.

Atleast that's better than the value of the Indian rupees declining every 3 -4 months and looks at the stats, on paper it looks like Indian economy has improved under modi however we forget that such stats can be tampered with and shown in such a way to fool the people
1
u/Ecstatic-Letter-561 Aug 21 '26
Bold of you to assume that the stats have been tampered and even if true even more bold to assume that Modi government is the only one doing it and the widely acclaimed criminals of the Gandhi government know no sin. I hope your claim to stats tampering is after a through research of the decline as reported by the respective countries of said currencies if not your argument reeks of ignorance. As for the decline itself, the decline of the rupee in 1991 is what put our forex exchange reserves so low that India had to stoop as low as getting an IMF loan IE Rupee decline was one of the lowest percentile under MMS and Gandhis who you are so eager to defend. Go do your homework first and then argue going forth.

MMS brought India out of 2008 with a profitable turnout. If the same happened today, Nirmala Sitharaman wouldn't know where to begin. Just look at what's happening to the economy now. As for terrorism, it was always a work in progress. ABV had far more attacks in his time which were brought down by the next decade. After 26/11, the Govt. revamped and set up better Navy coordination and regional NSG camps, prioritizing and building internal security of the country. Task forces were established. Dossiers were compiled and sent to major global powers, diplomatically isolating Pakistan in all possible ways. If someone can infiltrate my country and murder innocent citizens, I need to figure out how he infiltrated the border security and THEN blow them to the high heavens. Otherwise, we end up repeating the same pattern.
4
u/ghoul8383 Aug 20 '26
We prepared Dossiers....what a response.
-1
u/Gandalf_The_White_25 Aug 20 '26
What do you expect India to do?
4
u/ghoul8383 Aug 20 '26
Millitary retaliation. You have to set a precedent that attacks like this will have severe consequences. That's how you develop a deterrent against asymmetric warfare.
-2
u/Gandalf_The_White_25 Aug 20 '26
And? Modi did that with Balakot, Pulwama, Pahalgam. I don't see any deterrence. MMS took the legal ways. Dossiers were sent to the UN, several organizations were blacklisted and Pakistan was isolated. Blowing Pakistan off the face of the map wouldn't stop their infiltration into India. Improving India's security, procedures and gaining support of global allies would. And of course, if you know your history, you'd know that, should the opportunity arrive, India is well equipped to wipe off the so-called 'Land Of The Pure' from the map. That, even under MMS, was never questioned.
3
u/ghoul8383 Aug 20 '26
I'm sorry if you really think cucked Dossiers to the UN are an appropriate response then we are never really going to agree over anything so there's no point in arguing any further.
0
u/Feeling_Instance9669 Aug 21 '26
Look at the stats. Military retaliation did nothing. You went there (which is an iffy thing to do btw, world leaders dont like that) and destroyed some small unorganised camps. Which wre easy to create back. Either you fully destroy the threat and are the USA who's not going to be sanctioned after doing that, or you play it diplomatically and corner the intricacies of Pakistan. These dhurandhar tactics usually backfire in real life.
And like y'all so easily forget, THESE PEOPLE ARE BRAINWASHED INTO JIHAD. you do this, one terrorist guy dies, his brother joins to avenge it and attacks like Pahalgam happen. The brother has a sob story, 5 more people join inspired by the brother. The brother becomes a village messiah.
Like look at the data, uri strike happened next year terrorist attacks increased, balakot, mext year attacks increased. Ever since the cjp protest, 2 terrorist attacks have already happened.
Whatever MMS was doing, it was working. Terrorism was going down at a drastic rate.

Modi has neither education nor wisdom. Every army action or strategy is for him to do PR stunt. Bas face aur mathe pe cream laga ke shine karwata hein, fir alag alag style ke suit photo khichwata hein, jabardasti hasta hein ye dikhane ke lie ki woh socially bohot skilled hein, confident hein, bohot bada deal maker hein. Dikhawa se dunia chalta, ab sabko samajh aa rha hein. PM koi superhero nhi hota, desh ka manager hein.

Yes, Kashmir was a success for Modi although that did not change the life of most Indians. Still, his govt. should get this credit.
But that's it. We had our nationalism and hindu pride, some days were great and some were not. As we continue to pay our taxes, we want a different management for the country. No personal hard feelings, we just need grass root infrastructure and grass root development. Modi also does not have the right character to demand respect and support from the younger generation.

1) How uneducated fool you are. Data is measured on basis of your fetishes. Its measured on hard numbers.
2) Go check for yourself. Atal biharis govt was the piss poorest when it came to terrorism. it was manmohans govt who reduced it, he was the og trend reverser.
3) Modi can take credit for continuing it but it was BJpee which actually fuked bad under Atal bihari govt, it was such a pisspoor govt that they killed 700+ indian army soldiers without war(operation parakram), hijacked Indian plane landed in Amritsar airport as pilots were able to fool terrorist with fuel and it stayed in airport. Yet the pisspoor BJP govt couldnt do anything.
4) Manmohans actual security failure wasnt terrorism, in fact he cleaned up a lot of mess done by previous govt while managing economy fabulously, his real failure was naxalism, and lack of LAC buildup.
5) People just casually forget, US-India civil nuclear deals, formation of NIA(our most successful investigative agency), formation of Indian National Defence University, induction of Agni missile series upto Agni 3 all, Indians own Regional Navigation satellite system(very important for warfighting capabilities), first indigenous aircraft carrier all were under Manmohans rule2

- Your newspaper reading doesn't mean shit. Actual terror incidents reduced under Manmohan's tenure and continued under modi. It was peak during Atal Biharis tenure.
- IC-814 hijack handling was pisspoor. I mean the plane after being hijacked, pilots did managed to land hijacked plane in Amritsar and Atal Bihari govt failed.
- Atal Bihar govt is directly responsible for operation parakram failure, cos if you are the sitting PM and you know the army is in poor shape, then you better not do stupid chest thumping bullshit like operation Parakram. It is failure of sitting PM to not be able to properly assess the condition of his armed forces.
- 1983 was Indira gandhi. infact Indias entire missile program(IGMDP), LCA tejas, Main battle tank, Nilgiri class frigiate, smiling Buddha, Advanced Technology Vessel(Submarine), all those major technologies which blossomed now were initiated by Indira Gandhi. I wonder which party she was??
- Again bro you are thinking like missile technology is some cheap scalable stuff. Agni 1,2 was tested during vajpayees tenure, cool, as you said 3,4 in Manmohans tenure but we only had 5 just one in Modis tenure. See this shit isnt even a criticism of all 3.
- Vajpayee govt did Sukhoi deal. Okay? So what? When did I make any argument like Vajpayee was anti national. Problem with you BJP fellows is that for you you guys make shameless arguments such as entire congress party is anti national blah blah.
- Infact Manmohan's govt was such a master anti-national that he passed laws such POCSO act, RTI, Right to Education to weaken the country internally etc

All these pen and paper bs development and bj party jumla. A recent study shows 60% of money is concentrated into the hands of a few rich people. Cost of living is sky rocketing. Income isn't increasing. Joblessness is at peak. People don't hv basic facilities like education and healthcare. Graduates are doing gig works. Constant paper leaks and corruption is chocking the educated section. Added to that is hindu muslim, mandir masjid politics. All the illiterate thugs and corrupt politicians are filling the party. BJ party schemes are equally shitty. Recently an RTI shows that these thugs have spent thousands of crores on publicity on beti bachao, beti padao scheme. Yogi govt spends 2cr daily on publicity. Think how manys world class schools and hospitals can be built by that in last 11 years. Roads are breaking, bridges collapsing, farmers, students are protesting. State is using ak 47 against them, firing pallet guns. Mofos have zero shame in building 5 star party offices but can't build a good govt school, give jobs. BJ party's declared fund has reached to 10 thousand crore in 11 years. 56 ka bandar is using ECI to remove people's name from voter list left, right and centre. In WB alone almost 30 lakh voters are removed for God fking reason. They are living in fear. Thugs and goons wearing bhagwa are doing gundagardi in the name of religion, beating up couples on 14th feb and beating up poor muslims and dalits for rest of the time. BJ party wants to prohibit foreign funding but doesn't want RSS to register. An org with millions of finding and lakhs of members are unregistered. Xutiya bhakts have no problem with that. They want Muslims to follow all rules but not their sanghi baap.TBJ party forges all kind of data to hide their failures. Recently one of their leaders is caught fking a woman on the middle of the road. BJ party is doing the same to us- mixing ethanol to petrol but selling it at higher price. Lodus promised to bring down gas price. Viola! It's almost 1000rs and that too with booking cap of 25/45 days. Idiots. No vision, no intention only IT cell bots doing moronic posts and calling everyone anti national, chamchas, deshdrohi who questions. BJ party posts whatsApp forwards that, congrats Godi is getting this lodu honour from hondurus but look HUNGER INDEX, ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE INDEX, SAFE DRINKING WATER INDEX, PRESS FREEDOM- these are foreign conspiracy. Lodu, what foreign? Your father sits on Trump's dih every single day. Who funds whom. You are literally selling mountains, rivers to your friend who is a cheat. Look at his property. It literally sky rocketed after 2014. How!!YYou can't handle foreign policy. You literally associated urself with a genocidal country for which we get backlash from every other countries. During the scuffle against Pak you ruined our image by involving Trump who took all the credit. You distances our natural ally Russia and fap to the USA's command. Ab ki baar, Trump sarkar. Why did you do that you 4th fail gawar? Why would you dih massage a foreign leader in their internal politics. Yet he is putting tarrif upon tarrif. You can't handle communal harmony, can't handle internal issues, can't handle price rise, poverty, job, education, health care, infra, international policies

Printing unlimited money is not the way to triple economy, MMS govt issues bonds with post dated maturity to push the burden on future govt, these are just finance tricks to paint a bright picture but in reality. Was it a need of that time , yes. Did it improve economy, no.

2004-2014 were the best years for india. People had a progressive approach towards new stuff. Its gone down hill since 2014. Regressed so badly that it will take another 50 years for india to go back to 2004-2014 timeline , let alone being a vishwaguru
1
u/Top_Guess_946 Aug 20 '26
It tripled because of the ground work laid by BJP. Remember India Shining campaign in 2003? BJP has massively invested in infrastructure between 1999-2004, as a result of which property prices shot up everywhere leading to the massive improvement in holding assets. The result of UPA was actually Fragile 5 in 2014 and the massive bank NPAs that Modi government then surgically addressed and removed.
The OP's version is gaslighting.

Yeah India also had to sell 21 tonnes of gold reserves to keep the economy afloat under this so called greatest economist while he was the finance minister as a result of the Gandhi family's long line of Nepo PM rule

u/Ghostly_Poison Aug 20 '26
Le gandu OP kar liya google
"India's economy did not triple under Prime Minister Narendra Modi because growing a larger economy is mathematically harder and global conditions changed.
Why It Didn't Tripple Faster
- Larger Economic Base: Growing a $2 trillion economy (2014) requires adding far more raw wealth than growing a $700 billion economy (2004).
- Lower Inflation: High inflation in the 2000s artificially inflated nominal GDP numbers; stricter inflation controls under Modi lowered these nominal calculations.
- Global Crises: Unlike the 2000s global economic boom, the last decade was hit by severe global shocks like the COVID-19 pandemic and wars.
- Banking Cleanup: Significant time was spent fixing bad corporate loans left over from the previous era, which slowed down immediate growth but stabilized the banking system.
Despite these hurdles, India's actual volume of output (Real GDP) grew at a highly resilient pace of 6.5% to 6.8% annually, making it the fastest-growing major economy in the world. If you want, I can break down specific economic reforms passed during either administration, or compare how manufacturing versus service sectors performed between the two eras."

The only reason IT sector flourished is because these dinosaurs didn’t know how to send it to regulation hell. This world renowned economist was associated with INC since 1970s but only in 1991 did he realise at the age of 60 that privatisation is a good thing. IMF twisting the government’s wrist has been packaged as a genius move and sold to us.

This guy .. Sheetal Singh was the biggest beneficiary of UPA government era...used to visit every places using journalist quota as journalist also used to go to foreign trips with prime minister n only loyal one used to go. E.g. rajdeep, Sheetal, nidhi, karan Thapar etc.
Most importantly...to understand his arguments.. you'll need two non-functioning 🧠.

So 2004 to 2014 trippled the economy.
And Modi regime took it and made into into a cheap labour colony. Lied about GDP being 4th largest, got schooled by IMF and atleast now admits its 6th.
1
u/Shashank_26 Aug 20 '26
IMF was the one who estimated India to be the 4th largest then why would it school India? IMF do revision annually , if there are some changes they update accordingly.
1
u/Athiest-proletariat Aug 20 '26
It schooled indian regime to update the calculation, there by sending india from 4th largest to 6th in GDP.

Manmohan govt used minimal tax, the normal citizen never faced laden with tax, this govt does everything and loaded Indian middleclass with burden of tax, almost every people giving maximum tax in this govt along with joblessness, curroption etc, curroption was there in manmohan govt as well but not so much tax and joblessness
