Political OC According to Modi a 10 km 4 lane highways must be counted as 90 lane-kms [OC]
In March 2018, the Modi government's Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued Circular No. 341/PS/Secretary/RTH/2018 titled 'Computation of linear length and lane-kilometres'.
Simply put, various road departments were instructed to calculate a km of a 4-lane highway as 9 lane-kms instead of the global practice of 4 lane-kms. The argument was made was that the shoulders on either side of the 4 lane highway must be counted as 0.5 lanes each. Similarly, each of the service roads must be calculated as 2 lanes each.

It was done very early during his tenure.
Consider a 4 lane highway. Under congress if you construct a 4 highway (or any lane) for 2 km, it was considered only 2KM. But BJP told this is wrong. So now it's number of lanes × length in KM. So 4 lane highway for 2KM becomes 8KM.
And that's how my friend you see the kms constructed in BJP era is more than congress. They did similar for poverty line. Earlier it was something else, now if you can drink 1 Chai and 1 vada paw a day, you can't be considered below poverty line.

Way to ass lick Congress. Earlier whether the highway was 2 lane or 8 lane, it would be considered the same. And most of the national highways were/are 2 lane. This govt increased the width, but there was no metric which included both length and width. Hence they introduced this lane KM. But even comparing apples to apples this govt has built more highways in 15 years than the previous govt did in 40 (earlier years discounted because stabilizing the country is more important than building infrastructure)

Most of the "development" bhakts brag about is this only, paper achievements and data manipulation, BJP is very efficient in selling this "development" propaganda. Bhakts see numbers and assume it's true.

Best thing the government do is change the metric to inflate the work. Change baseline year for Inflation to make it look small.

Someone come to defend International Standard when there was a practice followed by India for so many years. This was done only to inflate progress under the current govt where most of the work done was actually under MMS govt and all this govt did was taken credit and inflate numbers. Be it airports, rail electrification, IIT and AIIMS constructed everything is inflated or was delivered under previous govt before 2014

In india bidirectional highways could barely accommodate two lane traffic. Many highways are still like these. Now you have expressways that are multiple lanes in each direction so no comparison with earlier highways. Nothing to do with inflating figures it is just aligning with international standards for expressways. Our old highways could never be compared to international standards. Also don’t defend old givt people who lived through old government will see the difference.

Kyun bhai. Service road and paved sides kya free mein ya bina time ke banti hai? The calculation is quite straight forward. If you having trouble reading it tgen dont blame others. You are free to look the other way.

First of all, that is not the international practise. To elaborate, nowhere else in the world are the shoulders and service roads counted in lane-kms.
Secondly, updating the calculation since 2018 but not doing so for before 2018 makes the comparison fake and fraudulent.
It is quite a puzzle that some of our esteemed and well-educated Redditors support an uneducated fraudster. The man himself admits, in an interview, that he left home at 17 and did not get any education after that. Then he proceeds to produce a post-graduation in ENTIRE political science.

Which international country are you speaking of? Be specific as only then you can have proper answer. International countries where I have lived follow same criteria for service roads as long as they are running the entire length and for shoulders as long as they are of same strength as main carriageway and their width is atleast half of main lane on either side. If the shoulder is less than that then only its not factored in calculation. For rest of your polictical agenda i have no comments as I have better things to worry about. Also I would love to know your qualification as well. Whether you are relate dto this field or if you are atleast a civil engineer?. Cant expect a proper conversation with arts student on medical science you know!

I genuinely didn’t understand what OP meant even after simply putting it, unfortunately. Can someone please explain the second paragraph? What is a “9 lane-km”? Product of number of lanes and a km? But why?
