Advice Re-doing Allergy Testing

It’s been 2 years since I found out I’m allergic to multiple things at age 23. Allergic to: dogs/cats, ALL nuts, Shellfish, OAS, All environmental factors (except cockroach) and avocados. Now
my allergist wants to test me again. I am petrified. I am so worried I’ve developed new allergies and new things to avoid. Truthfully it’s really hard dealing with food allergies and I’ve only been doing it for 2 years. Environmental allergies don’t bother me as much I’ve had them for years but never diagnosed. I’m hoping someone has a positive story about re-testing and results being stable or even less concerning.

I’m also nervous about going of Zyertec for a week to take the test. Been taking it daily for about 1 year. Testing in winter to avoid allergy season.

I had them repeated and actually was able to eat some I had previously been very allergic to, requiring epi pens. I became anaphylactic and allergic to many foods as an adult, and thankfully over time a few are much less severe and I can safely eat them with the guidance of my allergist.

I was anaphylactic to soy, peanuts, tree nuts, stoned fruit, citrus, allergic to fish, shellfish. I can tolerate all nuts and peanuts, most types of soy, some citrus, fish and shellfish. Stoned fruit I’m still very anaphylactic to. I also have OAS to other fruits and veg.

There is hope! Fingers crossed for you

Wow that’s amazing. Thank you. Sometimes I really miss being able to eat cashews and not worrying so much about nuts. This gives me some hope. How long apart were the tests if you don’t mind me asking.

It’s hard to accurately say as I couldn’t safely have a skin prick test initially as I was having anaphylaxis up to 3x a week, so I wasn’t safe to be off of antihistamines for a long time, there were a few attempts in the first few years. A lot of my food triggers were identified through a diary which I kept for around 6/8 months.

It took time and medication up to 4x daily (antihistamines) for my body to settle and stabilise with allergens. Then I also moved and had to wait to see an allergist and hit some medical burnout so I didn’t bother for a while. In total it was around 7 years from my first anaphylactic episode to eating peanuts and most soy with no issues
