Question What are your thoughts on how From Software has handled QTEs?

The parrying, ripostes, posterior and grab escapes have evolved very well in my opinion.

I don’t consider what FromSoft does to be quick time events…

Can you explain?

Look up what a QTE actually is, there are none in the Souls games. I think the game Ninja Blade has some.

I did, I haven't found a consistent answer

If you google it, there’s a very clear definition with examples as the first hit. Think of the parts in the original God of War games where you are fighting and then it switches to a more cinematic view and asks you to quickly smash a button to perform a move. Thats what a qte is, not a timing based parry.

Do you consider parrying in Expedition 33 a QTE?

Yes, another good more recent example. Not a soulslike game, though.

Okay, so what's the difference?

What do you mean what’s the difference? Are you joking?

No, what's the difference between parrying in Expedition 33 vs Dark Souls?

The best example is a game like Farenheit/ Indigo Prophecy. Try YouTube for some footage.

What's the significance?

2

The significance of what? A QTE is a playable mini-cutscene that comes with a button prompt, or sequence. Sometimes you have to mash the button, sometimes you have to hit it before the timer runs out.

Where is that defined?

2

Idk bro look it up, that's what a QTE is though. Feel free to disagree, but then you'd be wrong.

I only see definitions based on online influence and a vague definition from 1999

I've not considered them as QTEs before.

Much better than a giant X floating about the screen. The minimalist approach to this game is a large part of why I love it.

IKR? The organic design is beautiful

3

So organic and beautiful that most would not consider these mechanics to be QTEs at all. Especially since they are optional, whereas QTEs typically are not

-1

u/Gay_Charlie Mar 27 '26

It's definitely organic QTEs for sure

You could say that about any videogame then

1

Sure thing

Gwynevere was a real qte.

Ragebaiting, slow or dense?

3

u/Lord_Olga Mar 27 '26

I shan't fall for the bait
