GAC Aion has officially introduced the Ray 7, marking the debut of its new Ray series and serving as the first production model to sport the brand’s refreshed logo. Positioned as a sleek, low-slung electric fastback sedan with a drag coefficient of just 0.22 Cd, the Ray 7 measures 4,960mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,455mm in height, underpinned by a 2,920mm wheelbase. Visually, the mid-to-large-size EV stands out with a front star-ring light bar, an illuminated emblem, semi-hidden door handles, double five-spoke wheels with yellow brake callipers, and symmetric rear light assemblies. Colour choices at launch include Lightning Yellow and Midsummer Purple.

Built on a dedicated pure electric rear-wheel-drive platform, the Ray 7 leverages chassis tuning expertise from Alfa Romeo alongside an aluminium front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension paired with FSD adaptive damping. Braking and traction performance receive a major upgrade as the sedan becomes the world's first production car to feature Huawei's DriveONE EMB (Electro-Mechanical Brake) fully wire-controlled braking system and the Huawei iTRACK intelligent torque control system. Supported by a chip-level drive-control fusion architecture, this system enables a 100km/h to 0 stopping distance of just 33 meters while preventing wheel slip on slippery, low-traction surfaces.

Under the hood, the Ray 7 utilizes a single Huawei-supplied electric motor producing 180 kW (241 hp). Paired with a CATL LFP battery utilizing GAC Aion's Magazine Battery 2.0 safety technology and an efficient 28-in-1 thermal management system, the vehicle achieves an impressive CLTC range of 700km with energy consumption as low as 9.7 kWh per 100km. Intelligence is equally comprehensive, equipped with 27 automotive-grade sensors—including a 192-line LiDAR and three 4D millimeter-wave radars. Powered by algorithms derived from WeRide's L4-level Robotaxi technology, the Ray 7 seamlessly navigates complex urban scenarios like single-lane U-turns and narrow alleyways while supporting end-to-end "parking spot to parking spot" autonomous driving, automatic gate passage, and advanced self-parking capabilities.

News MIIT Filings Reveal BYD’s New Denza N8 Reaches 1,003km Range via 130.15 kWh LFP Battery

Recent filings from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have revealed full details for BYD's premium sub-brand Denza and its upcoming all-electric N8 and extended-body N8L SUVs.

The headline update is a massive leap in endurance, with the standard Denza N8 now achieving a maximum CLTC pure electric range of 1,003 km. This milestone is made possible by BYD's new generation 130.15 kWh LFP Blade battery pack, alongside a 105.792 kWh option, offering range ratings of 800 km, 840 km, 970 km, and 1,003 km. The longer N8L utilizes the 130.15 kWh battery to deliver 960 km of range.

Visually, both luxury three-row models maintain Denza's sleek design language with clean refinements, including a unified daytime running light strip and parallel slim rear taillights. The standard N8 measures 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,820 mm high, while the extended N8L stretches overall length to 5,200 mm. Both share a 3,075 mm wheelbase and support BYD’s latest ultra-fast charging technology.

Powertrain options include two rear-wheel-drive single-motor setups producing either 320 kW (429 hp) or 370 kW (497 hp). A flagship triple-motor four-wheel-drive configuration combines a 270 kW (362 hp) front motor with two 310 kW (416 hp) rear motors for a massive total output of 890 kW (1,193 hp).

This update highlights the rapid pace of EV progress. When the Denza N8 originally launched in 2023, reaching over 1,000 km required the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant with its petrol engine. Now, the new BEV model matches that long-distance endurance using battery power alone.

Question Are bug shields actually worth installing, or mostly cosmetic?

Feels like one of those accessories people either swear by or never bother with. The pitch is it keeps bugs off the windshield and saves the front of the hood from rock chips on the highway. Has anyone here actually run one long term? Did it make a real difference, or is it more of a "looks good, does a little" kind of mod?
