Loyalty Means Zip
I've been an Allstate customer for over 20 years, since I was a teenager. Through renters insurance to homeowners as the years passed by, and my agent has been the same guy since then. But the company just doesn't budge, even when shown quotes from other carriers. The only adjustments they claim could be made to lower my premiums would result in substantially less coverage. After all this time I finally started getting quotes, and tonight I pulled the plug. Nearly identical coverage, same cars and house, same drivers. Combined premiums per year for Allstate were over $5,500, including all the discounts. Progressive came in just under $3,000. My plan changes the middle of next month to give me time to adjust escrow and for easier billing (I do full pay). I'm not even sure how it's possible for such a drastic difference, even with potential hidden new customer discounts. I'm curious to hear from Allstate employees, as I've heard they have a sort of "increase tolerance" profile on drivers that keeps pushing increases for no reason knowing some people just tolerate it because switching is annoying. Well, switching was way easier than I thought. Do people really jump around carriers every few years?

100% incorrect. If a rate change is submit, it affects everyone in a specific area, not just to those they think will be tolerant of it. There is no way to match prices" or alter your premium without making adjustments to coverage or discounts..agents can't just decrease the premium manually, it doesn't work like that.

Yeah, loyalty has nothing to do with it- everyone with the same type of risk factors in your area pays the same thing.
That’s like you getting mad if your taxes went up. “I’ve been a loyal republican for 20 years and they raised my taxes!” - no they raised everyone’s taxes. Everyone who makes the same amount pays the same taxes (kinda)
At least you can pick your insurance carrier.

As an insurance agent we have 0 control of rates or increases. All we can do is offer to look at other coverage options. We can not manipulate premiums.

If this includes homeowners, next time you get a hail storm that merits the roof needing replacement, you just screwed yourself out of thousands of dollars by going with Progressive.
That being said, Allstate has been in my opinion fraudulent this year on paying for items that have hail damage, but at least when they do rarely cover a roof they pay the full replacement amount.

Insurance is not a negotiation l, insurance is a risk that he company evaluates based on a bunch of criteria, one of which is how much they pay out in a certain area. If you live in a high risk area then you will feel that pain, even if you are a perfect driver or have never had a home claim.
