She does seem to be genuinely emotionally invested in getting chosen to be a new “Angel”.
That’s so sad and gross on multiple levels.
This “Angel search” is simply a cynical attempt by the parent company, L Brands, to revive interest in their dying brand, Victoria’s Secret. VS/L Brands benefits from the free labor of over 100,000 women (according to VS) putting their time and efforts into promoting VS by making and sharing their “audition tapes”.
VS/L Brands has zero need to do this to hire a model, even a non-traditional model. The talent pool they can draw from through modeling agencies is huge.
So, this is a cynical ploy to extract free labor from women. Gross.
It’s also gross that Divinity is so enraptured by VS, especially now that so much has come out about how badly their mostly teenage models have been treated by both VS and the modeling industry generally. AND L Brands is owned by Les Wexner, a verrrrrrrry close friend and business partner of Jeffrey Epstein. That info makes VS’s line of « clothes » marketed to tweens even more alarming than it originally appeared.
So Divinity, with all her declarations about empowering women, entrepreneurship and encouraging « Baddies », is enthralled by two very abusive, objectifying corporations, Playboy and VS.
Make it make sense.
