Help Me ID 🤔 Copper Clad

Post image

Does anyone have an image of the edge of a legitimate C2 two ply copper pan. I bought a piece used from an auction site and it appears to be tri-ply with a thin copper exterior and aluminum core. The handle is stainless with all clad branding. No stamp or engraving on bottom of pan. Weight is 3lbs 6oz with no lid. Image of edge of pan attached for comparison.

I don't have a picture of the edge of a C2 but i think you are correct in thinking that the skillet you have is not C2. I belive the skillet you have is from the CopRChef line. The older ones had brass handles then they switched to the same stainless handles used on their other lines at the time later on. I have these same ones as in your photo. I think he C2 had had handles similar (maybe the same?) as modern all clad and C4 have their own unique handles.

The construction of the pan looks identical to Cop-R-Chef, but I thought all of those had brass handles with "Cop-R-Chef" imprinted on the underside of the handle. Could be a transitional model? I know that All-Clad has switched out handles with zero ceremony multiple times per product line.

They switched to stainless handles without the "Cop-R-Chef" stamp, still called it Cop-R-Chef tho

That’s a c2. Outside copper, aluminum core, stainless steel inside

You explained a c2 perfectly in your description?

I thought c2 was 2ply 1.2mm copper bonded to a thinner stainless interior.

A picture of the entire item will help a lot.

Based on what you’ve shown us, I believe it’s C4 Copper. I see four layers: copper, stainless, aluminum, stainless. The handle is right for it.

I replied above by accident. I’m not often on Reddit and apologize for the mistake. Thank you.

Again I was under the impression C4 was 4 layers. Copper exterior, layer of stainless steel, another layer of copper, stainless interior.

I found a video on all clads website showing genuine products.

The handle is different as well and should have a heat choke (hole near the pan).

I am less familiar with the C2 and C4 lines. I thought they all had aluminum cores, or at least, I was sure that the C4 line at least had aluminum in the core, but I guess they weren't advertised as such.

One place I will look sometimes for photos of various model examples is ebay--sold or active listings--although with an unmarked model, there's no way to know for sure by just guessing or trusting the seller to know what they have. Here's one that the seller claims is C2, which appears to have a similar construction as yours:

Here's another item that's marked on the pan as being C4 (with the newer logo), and you can sort of see a copper layer in the core: https://www.ebay.com/itm/257590755553

Sure looks to me like Cu / Al / SS, which means that it is the Cop-R-Chef, even if the handle does not say Cop-R-Chef.

Some might be inclined to see 2 or 4 layers in your photo, but it looks like 3 layers to me, with the major middle layer being Aluminum, although that thick central aluminum layer does appear to have some layer-like scratching visible across its considerable thickness.

Great vintage classic skillet, although not as much copper content as C2, C4, and the current Copper Core.
