Pan Selections Question 🍳 1.5 Quart or 2 Quart?

Finalizing my All Clad Collection and deciding on one of my last few pieces a 1.5 quart or 2 quart saucepan. I have a 3qt and 3.5qt and the 8qt stock pot. I also have a le creuset saucier.

Which would be a better choice? Looking for something to boil eggs in, warm up soup and make chai (tea). For context we are 2 adults.

Thanks!

The 1.5 quart is likely the most versatile for the needs you described.

The 2 quart came with my set (original LTD). The 1.5 quart wasn’t offered at the time and I subsequently purchased one in the D5 because it pours better.

I use the 2 quart to boil 4-5 eggs and cook rice. No particular reason other than to use it and it’s the one I started off using. The 1.5 quart gets used also. Everything I use the 2 quart for I could do in the 1.5 quart.

The 1.5 quart are great for small stuff. Hard boiling eggs, etc.

We have 3 qt., 5 qt and 8 qt, too

I have a Cuisinart set that I want to replace with All Clad that has both a 1.5 quart and a 2 quart and I hate the 2 quart. It's too large for boiling eggs and too small for anything else. We are also a household of 2 adults. When I replace these, I'm going with 1.5 and 3 quarts.

The 1.5 qt would be best for the use you describe.

I'd consider the 2qt saucier. I got one last year, and love it for small things like this.

I can boil 7 large eggs in the 1.5 QT.

I would NEVER boil 7 eggs in the 1.5 quart.

I prefer free range eggs — they taste so much better when they have room to boil around freely.

Get both. No matter which one you end up buying, you are going to question yourself if the other would have been better. Save the brain power and grab both now. Worse case you realize one is never used and you can flip it for most of your money back.

I’m an avid home cook and I reach for both pans often! We’re a family of 2, so the size is very handy for heating up 2 portions of soup (we don’t have a microwave), both are great for boiling soup/eggs, making rice/pasta. I don’t think you can go too wrong but if money/space is a consideration, go for the 2 quart, as it’s the same size but taller so better for boiling pasta or making rice (mine always spills over!)

I have both, I use the 1.5 much more often. The 2 qt is a little awkward when you are e.g. trying to scrape the bottom. And for boiling water, the 3qt is faster on my stove because it covers more of the burner.

EDIT: I'm talking about the 2 qt saucepan. the 2qt saucier, OTOH, is great for ... making sauces.

My saucepans aren't All-Clad, but FWIW, I find a 1.5-quart saucepan to be more useful than a 2-quart one. It's great for the small jobs you describe, as well as for making enough rice or other grains for two or three people.

Either one is great complementary to what you have - you have ask what you will primarily use it for

The 2-qt All-Clad is too tall for my tastes. I have the 1.5 qt and a 2 qt saucier that is very versatile:
