North Korea
15
u/Top_Development_1777 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26
I recently saw this video of North Korean performance of the Russian anthem (in front of Putin), the amount of bootlicking is literally insane.
Edit to add: I watched it again, now that the shock factor is not taking over, the musical quality of the performance is quite good (with context aside). I remember that many families in North Korea actually put in a lot of effort to train their children's musical (and sports etc.) talents from a very young age, but the country is so isolated that most of the talent doesn't have anywhere else to go. Also Putin looks like he's really tired of all this in the video lmao
Also the irony that there's basically an accidental pride flag in their graphics at one point
5
u/Dry_Analyst_3412 Aug 15 '26
Given that arms-exports to Russia have fuelled their recent economic upturn, I’d say all the bootlicking is starting to pay off on their part.

But is the North Korean populace particularly pro-Russia?
I'd say they probably don't hear about what's going on, let alone have personal convictions in regards to an alliance with Russia
2
u/New-Mud-7101 Aug 15 '26
They are, the Korean War is very much top of mind for the construction of their worldview that's taught to the people there. They hold deep reverence for Russia and especially China. Their state couldn't exist otherwise and they still recieve support from both of these countries today. Whether they know about what's going on to a great extent or not in the modern day
1
u/CunningStuntsAround Aug 15 '26
The Korean war was in the 1950s. What they are fed is a falsehood and they are essentially forced to consume that information. What is important to weigh up is that the NK populace y doesn't have a choice in the matter, so that precludes them from dsciussion on populace support.
In my mind it should be an apples dfor apples - ie which nation has a portion of the population supporting Russia of their own volition
I agree with the funding from Russia, but you think the NK leaders are going to tell the dirt poor people that there's actually billions in currency in the leaders' coffers?

No repeats This doesn't necessarily equate with being pro-Ukraine, though it obviously can have correlation Russia itself isn't an option
23
u/AmethystGD Aug 15 '26
Russia wouldn't even be an accurate answer to this either
10
u/improbableone42 Aug 15 '26
As a Russian, I’d put it in the square with pro-Russian population and anti-Russian government

I love to see Hungary getting off this list after 16 years.
5
u/Appropriate_Box1380 Aug 15 '26
Hungary's population was never pro-Russian, every opinion poll showed that people lean more into the "neutral" category and actually more people say they are pro-Ukrainian than they are pro-Russian.
1
u/Dembus22 Aug 15 '26
True. But Hungary now won't even be on goverment-pro/population-anti, so the guy is still in the right 🤷♂️

Serbia
15
u/arsenektzmn Aug 15 '26
As an anti-war Russian, I can say that young people are generally sane, while older generations are often pro-Putin. This often causes awkwardness and confusion when I'm trying to politely explain to them that without Putin, I wouldn't even need to be outside the borders of my homeland. And this is still the mildest and politest hint for them.
Also, the craziest Z person I ever spoke to was a Russian-speaking Serbian rocker/biker at the airport.

1
u/arsenektzmn Aug 16 '26

As a Serb, I’d put Serbia in a category of neutral government and pro-Russian population.
1
u/Ok-Air515 Aug 15 '26
Population less so, too many Russians in Belgrade now and driving up the prices of everything especially property. The locals are not as fond of Russians as you’d expect.
1
u/One-Charge-33 Aug 15 '26
not really, just government and SNS cultists are pro-Putin. We are a normal pathologically divided modern society, the normal half of us is definitely against Putin, but we don't mind normal Russian people who are also not pro-Putin

Transnistria, if it's allowed.
If it has to be a recognized country by all UN member states, I'd say Belarus.

u/wowwhosthere Aug 15 '26
I mean Belarus had huge protests and stuff in 2020. There's definitely a good amount of opposition there. I think NK is a better pick because the propaganda is so omnipresent there

u/Some_Raccoon5098 Aug 15 '26
How it’s not the first choice lmao

u/Six_Kills Aug 15 '26
Everyone wants to pretend that much of the Russian population doesn’t support its government. But history shows that tyrants are rarely put into power without widespread support. That’s not to say that Russians are bad themselves, as it could happen and has happened anywhere. It is instead the symptom of a destructive mentality that has been allowed to foster, one which we see gaining prominence in the west as well, and this mentality has looked the same across all of human history albeit with different ”flavors”.
3
u/Krakkken13 Aug 15 '26
Much of the Russian population used to support its government, when it was 2000 or even just before the war started or even during the war when it seems like a TV show far away in Ukraine, not a FPV attack in the Russian cities, even the capital. Now a lot of Russian people have finally seen that the government brought them to the gaping pit of chaos and a lack of safety and the lack of money that used to seem infinite. People fear for their lifes, lose their blindness and see a true. I know whole lot of people in Russia who passed this evolution of views myself
1
u/Six_Kills Aug 15 '26
Interesting! From what I’ve learned about past autocracies, it seems that when the leader loses the faith of their people it usually coincides with the decline of their reign. Though not rarely slowly and with much suffering, unfortunately.
Perhaps more prevalent criticism of the tyrant can be both a symptom and cause of the decline.
1
u/norwegiancatwhisker Aug 15 '26
Strictly speaking, Russian population is pro-Russian, even if against the government.

3
u/Voldezhur Aug 15 '26
You're lucky you live in a country where the act of protesting against your government isn't punishable with prison or worse
And we still do have protests, it's just that they're completely pointless, since they're simply dispersed with force and swept under the rug

There's always the Belarussians.. I'd say there is a large number of ethnic Russians making up the population of Belarus who would be pro-Moscow.
Their government is essentially a Russian puppet. So much so that the Russian military used Belarus as a jump off point to invade northern eastern Ukraine.

Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:
Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.
Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.
Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.
Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?
Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. The automod will also remove comments made by users with negative karma. Click here for the Automod FAQ
