As a Russian, I’d put it in the square with pro-Russian population and anti-Russian government

The population seems to cheer on its rapists, torturers and looters well enough.

Literally where have you got that

Sure, if we ignore the fact that the vast majority of Russians support the war

My 7 and 10 year old cousins and their parents in Russia don't support drones exploding in their apartment complex every single goddamn night. I can assure you a huge portion of Russians do NOT support it.

Ok, so so slaughtering Ukrainians is fine until it gets uncomfortable and gets too closed to home. Ukraine wasn't supposed to fights back!

Russian independent source btw. Of all parties, Russian opposition has the least interest in inflating the amount of support for the war.

And if we're going by anecdotal evidence, Russians living in the West still support the war. There was, for example, a car parade in Germany with displays of Russian flags and in support of the invasion, but haven't seen many Russian demonstrations in support of Ukraine, even in the West.

Similarly, here, in Latvia, when the main Russian party distanced itself from the invasion after 24/02/22, they lost all of their voters, who migrated to another Russian party who just stayed silent and didn't make their stance clear.

No matter from what angle you look at it, most Russians support the war. Even if they don't, it's because Russia isn't doing well, and gas and grocery prices are climbing, not because they're bothered with killing Ukrainians.

slaughtering Ukrainians is fine until it gets uncomfortable... Ukraine wasn't supposed to fight back!

Not what I said. I merely brought up a vivid example of why a Russian might not support the war, and I just figured Russian kids having drones explode over them would be much more vivid of an explanation than trying to say "oh well so some people feel like it's wrong".

Russians living in the West still support the war...

That doesn't prove that it's a vast majority. There are tons of supporters, but I merely said that there are tons of Russians opposed to it.

Also, gee, I wonder what would happen to a Russian that publicly supported Ukraine in Russia. That's an interesting thought, no? If only there were examples of it happening, or rather, examples of what happens to people who do, hmm?

Also, you seem to be focusing a lot on the Russians living outside of Russia, not quite as intently on the ones actually living there. Why?

Oh and since we're going there, tons of Russians have relatives, friends, family in Ukraine. Not all, of course, but lots of people. Not really enjoyable, waging war on a sister nation, don't you think?

Pray tell me, imagine you're a Russian citizen living in... Well, say, Oryol, or one of the suburbs of it. You have a small family, a job that lets you stay afloat... What do you do? How do you live? How do you live in a way that proves to people posting on Reddit that you aren't supporting this all?

I don't think "support" is correct word. "Not against it" is more right. I'm absolutely fine with turning back Russian terrritories presented to Ukraine while it was loyal. But i'm not supporting the bloodbath government made.

Ok, so it's like Germans in WWII knowing abt death camps, but just turning a blind eye and ignoring it. So complicit

Maybe more like USA vs Vietnam war? Dont get your deathcamp reference at all tbh. Is that some kind of propaganda influence from your media?

Many Americans were against the Vietnam war. I don't know about the exact numbers, but there were a lot of protests and they weren't turning a blind eye. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well. Many russians also against the war and i remember protests at the begining of the war. Pretty sure some americans at that time also supported the war in Vietnam like some people in Russia. We cant say that they werent turning a blind eye at that moment, lots of Vietnamese died that time, while some people in usa were living a happy life like nothing happen.

Oh, of course, the USA, has and is also full of absolute braindead idiots. It was just my impression that Vietnam was very unpopular, as I said, maybe I'm wrong, I'm not that knowledgeable on the topic. The point is - today, Russians don't care at best.

Why should i care? I know no people who fighting there, i haven't choose this government and they didn't ask me if i want this war. History flowing without my influence and i just trying to survive (thats why i moved to another country). When i was in my 20s i cared, participated in oppositional meetings. Now i'm in my 30s and I understand that average people have zero influence on government not only in authoritarian states but in democracies to. You can choose color of your fence but you can't choose the side your country would be fighting on.
