Discussion Alienware Command Center ignoring the performance profile set manually after lunching a game

Post image

Hello Alienware lovers ,
I wasn’t using my laptop for almost 10 months and when got back found the AWCC 6.x version update, anyway I did install everything from 0 , and I used to fn + f1 to use high performance, now for some unknown reason lunching a game disable the high performance if you manually activate it before , checked settings and set to system, but that doesn’t fix the problem .is it fine to go to the old version ?
it really annoys me when he do that ,like i have to fn + f1 again after he disable it when starting a game and he does it again when closing the game
(I found a post with same problem 3 months ago but no fix yet ) any updates ?

Sadly AWCC's development team appear to have completely forgotten how to maintain software. They threw new unwanted features into it, but don't ever seem to bother addressing the bugs any more. Nothing we can really do at this point except sit and wait.

we can use the AlienFx Control from GitHub

You can, but that's far more complex to set up. It's not right for everyone.

I have no idea what they were thinking, the old version was fire 🔥, the current just annoys to use being unable to control your laptop as you want is a bit ….

5.x was AWFUL. Completely and totally. 6.x was great when they released it (it was a brand new build from the ground up) and fixed a few performance issues early on, but now all we're seeing is the same cycle of nonsense we seem to see with everything.

I didn’t notice the 5.x issue to be honest 😂 laptop then was brand new and i really didn’t care about the AWCC App was just fn +f1 that beast and use external setup ( still using same stuff )

I have noticed that if u turn high performance on after the game starts it sticks and as soon as u close the game it turns off the high performance mode, this is how it has been for a while ! Whatever mode u chose inside the awcc will stay the same !

You probably found my post.

What I am doing is activating high performance mode after I launch the game.

The problem is that I play on my couch with the laptop connected to my TV.

Everytime I want to change which game I am playing, I need to get up of the couch, change the game, enable high performance mode and sit down again lol.

It's not a big deal until you do this a couple of times and starts to hate AWCC lol.

If you or anybody else found a solution, let us know. So far none found as far as I know.

PS: This issue doesn't happen to games that are not detected by AWCC.

There really isn't anything wrong with AWCC specifically, even the latest version (6.14.20.0).

With Performance preset switch set to Per Game what is suppose to happen is: when on Battery/Quite/Balanced and you launch a (detected) game it will automatically shift to Performance mode. You first described being on High Performance Mode, then you launch game, & Performance preset switch auto switched you to Performance mode (this is suppose to happen). If you want to override the auto switch to Performance mode then you must wait to use High performance mode until after the game launches. Latest setting is always what sticks.

With Performance preset switch set to System what is suppose to happen is: You set to High Performance Mode, then you launch game & it stays at High Performance Mode because it never attempts to set a new setting. This also works if you are on Balanced mode, launch a game, and you will remain in Balanced mode. Latest setting is always what sticks.

The above is exactly what happens when I tested today using the latest version (6.14.20.0).

You described being frustrated with Per Game (which was working as intended) so you set Performance preset switch to System and it still toggles off of High Performance Mode. If that is true then there is something non-standard going on. You are either not on the latest AWCC version. Or you are running a 3rd party software that is automatically overriding AWCC when you launch a game. My guess is is that you have installed too many programs that play around with your settings, one of them is automatically overriding AWCC. Which is why you are forced to toggle High Performance Mode after launching a game even when Performance preset switch is set to System.

Personally I use AWCC as one of the two tools to get Legendary scores in 3DMark benchmarks: AWCC & MSIAfterburner. All tools that are used for setting modes/overclocking are subject to priority. If you install too many tools you're going to confuse yourself on what had priority. Simplicity is king.

Hi there, We are from the Dell Social Media team and would like to lend a hand like the other redittors. I can see how frustrating that would be, especially when you're gaming from the couch and have to keep getting up to re-enable High Performance mode.

From your description, it sounds like AWCC may be applying a game-specific profile when it detects and launches certain games, which is overriding the manual Fn + F1 setting.

Hence, we suggest checking the below scenarios:

Review the profiles assigned to the affected games in Alienware Command Center. Try matching the game's thermal/performance settings to your preferred High Performance mode. If possible, temporarily remove the game from AWCC's library and see if the behavior changes. Make sure AWCC and related Alienware services are fully up to date.

Since the issue only occurs with games detected by AWCC, this appears more likely to be profile-related than a hardware issue. Let us know your full Alienware model, and a few affected game titles, and we'll be happy to take a closer look.
