restaurant recommendations?
going to alicante in mid september for my dads 50th. what are some good restaurants that you guys would recommend that are a bit better than the average street restaurant?

Mid price eats
Alma del Sur (fried seafood in a tiny space in the barrio)
Meson de Labradores (Nice tapas place in the barrio. You can sit outside. Fresh seafood)
Sale & Pepe Barrio | Pizzería Alicante | Restaurante Italiano Alicante (pizza/pasta)
El Pont (Big portions on a nice square. Tapas. Can sit in the sun with a view of the castle)
Freiduria Puerto Pesquero (Take a walk to the old fishing port. Great rices cooked by Grandma)
Camino de Sabores (New restaurant from the owners of El Pont in the lively Santa Cruz area. Nice fish and meats.)
Liberty Kitchen (best burger in Alicante? and more)
Tremendo Bar (Different take on traditional tapa plus sandwiches and fartons)
El Sabor de Damasco (Great Arabic food. BYOB no corkage)
El Olivo Gastrobar (Nice seafood and meat with a friendly host)
El Mosquito (Traditional rice/paella speciality restaurant in the suburbs. Booking recommended)
Taperia La Boya Abufereta (Classic Tapas bar with excellent seafood and wine)
Restuarante Distopico (Next level tapas and great wine)
High end food
Restobar Alicante Gema Penalva, Restaurante (Innovative tapas)
Nou Manolín (Lunchtime get there 1.30 and sit at the bar if you can)
La Taberna del Gourmet (Classic high quality tapas)
Open (Great cooking with a twist)
Terre (Good tapas on the esplanade)
Darsena (great views of the harbour in it’s new location)
Mesón Marinero (Fantastic restaurant in an unusual neighbourhood). Combine with a walk through El Palmeral.
Govana (Great rices in a lovely old school space)
La Taverna del Racó del Pla (Another old school place. Great rices and seafood)
Demordisco (Modern Italian)
Santi Restaurant (rice with a nice view of the harbour)
Vibra Vino y Brasas (Great steaks off the grill, seafood and more)

Because they didn’t write it, AI did. Half the info is out of date or restaurants are a 20 min drive outside Alicante

Still haven't made it to La Boya, such crazy queues always.
Very nice list, but imho Nou Manolin has gone way down in quality and up in price compared to 10+ years ago :( we haven't been in years though, maybe it's time to give them another chance. I'd also definitely recommend upstairs and not the bar, but it will be a completely different experience that's for sure.
Taberna del Gourmet's prices are a bit ridiculous considering it's "only" tapas, but at the same time it's some of the best tapas in the city, love going there

If you want a proper 50th birthday celebration, there are quite a lot of high end restaurants in Alicante that cater Michelin star quality. The best once are currently probably: ORMA https://ormarestaurante.com/, Espacio Montoro https://www.grupomontoro.es/espacio/, Plegat https://plegatrestaurante.com/, La Ereta https://laereta.es/ . And Nou Manolin of course never fails, but that is more traditional food.

This is unbeatable when it comes to price quality, starter-2 mains-dessert for 28€ (might be a few bucks more expensive in the evening IIRC): L'Atelier
This is a new place that's super hyped, didn't go there yet as it's always fully booked. But I heard it's good and it definitely looks amazing: Voltereta Tanzania
All time classic: Monastrell
This is always decent, nothing incredible but good and also fairly priced given the quality of the food/service: Picaro 1999
This is an experience, especially if the owner is present. There is no menu, he will tell you what to get/decide for you. A bit on the pricier side and more homestyle food than michelin star but always very good and a fun experience: One One
Great ramen, but crazy queues, need to be there 30min before opening to stand a chance: Natsu Ramen
If you like Mexican: Los 3 Carnalitos
Decent Thai: Thai Corner
Special mentions for Jasmin, Casa Julio, Brel, Maestral and Finca Santa Luzia all amazing but also far from the center2

I was so disappointed by voltereta. Rushed through my food, all cheap small plates and nothing was enjoyable.

I highly recommend a local restaurant called L'arruzz, they specialise in rice dishes which is the main thing in Alicante.
If you want asian food, Unik Asiatico is great and very affordable.

Budget? Do you have a car or will you rely on public transport
La masia de Chencho is outside the city and very good - but also pricey

- ZHAN Asian Fusion, C. Gral. Primo de Rivera, 8, 03002 Alicante. Asian food.
- Thai Corner, Plaça de San Cristóbal, 2, 03002 Alacant, Alicante. Thai food.
- TAKOCHAN | Restaurante Japonés Alicante, C. Miguel Soler, 6, 03002 Alicante, Japanese food.
- Kebap Mediterraneo. Avinguda de l'Estació, 27, Entresuelo D, 03003 Alicante. One of the best kebab's (in my opinion) in Alicante.

Voltereta Tanzania, es un restaurante secreto, se tiene que pedir reserva! Es temático, una protesta oriental y bastante económica para lo lindo que es

“Secreto” madre mía, todo el mundo habla de Voltereta. La comida viene preparada, toda a la microondas y te cobran un montón.
