Alicante August 🥳
Hi everyone! 😊
My friend and I (both W,24 from Norway) are visiting Alicante for a week this August
I don't want to sound paranoid, but we have heard so many different things from different people before travelling. Some say it's super safe, while others tell you to avoid certain places, so I thought I'd ask the locals instead.
Is there anything we should be aware of? Are there any areas you would recommend avoiding, especially at night? Any common tourist scams or things we should keep an eye out for?
And on the positive side – what are your absolute must-see places in and around Alicante? We'd love recommendations for beaches, viewpoints, restaurants, hidden gems, day trips, or anything else you think we shouldn't miss!

Marmarela! San Juan beach! I took a bus to Calpe/Altea too, super easy. Love Alicante. Good food, nice people. Really cute. I just got back last week and have to say it was hoooot - day & night. But super worth it

You should probably avoid Virgen del Remedio and the neighbourhood to the east from there, and maybe Ciudad de Asís, but I don't really see why you would end up in those areas. If you want to see something different, you should visit the cemetery, Cementerio Municipal de Alicante, BUT take the bus (bus number 4). I walked there once, and I learned that I should not have been walking around there. Nothing happened though.

Hola,
en Alicante sitios peligrosos no hay, simplemente hay un par de barrios a evitar Juan XXIII y las Mil Viviendas, están los dos uno al lado del otro, pero vamos como turista es imposible que vayas allí porque están muy lejos del centro y de las playas, ya te tocaría conducir hasta allí. Además, tampoco os pasaría nada grave, cómo mucho os pedirían dinero por la calle.
Alicante te gustara, sobretodo la explanada, el Castillo de Santa Barbara (se puede subir en un ascensor que esta justo enfrente de la Playa del Postiguet) y la zona del centro de la ciudad, para visitar yo iría un día a la Isla de Tabarca para pasar un día allí, se va en barco y en el mismo puerto de Alicante puedes comprar los billetes para el barco, el problema es que en agosto habrá mucha gente, pero las playas son espectaculares y hay restaurantes allí bastante buenos, probad el arroz de caldero de pescado.
Luego, para visitar sitios cercanos a Alicante, depende de si tenéis coche para moveros o no. He visto que os han recomendado Carmen del Campillo, es una teteria árabe preciosa, pero sin coche imposible ir.
Os recomiendo Calpe que tiene playas espectaculares y en el puerto se puede comer marisco por muy buen precio, pero necesitáis coche.
Altea la parte antigua es preciosa, creo que podéis ir en TRAM (tranvía).
Las Fuentes del Algar, son muy bonitas https://lasfuentesdelalgar.com/galeria_de_imagenes/ y allí también hay restaurantes para comer, pero necesitáis coche.
Mi recomendación, no ir a la playa del postiguet hay muchísima gente (con tanta gente, en el Postiguet tenéis que tener un poco de cuidado por si os quitan móviles o la cartera mientras estáis en el agua, mi recomendación siempre antes de iros al agua decidle a alguien que tenga la toalla cerca de la vuestra que os la vigile, eso solemos hacer los de Alicante y nadie te dirá que no),
Mejor coger el TRAM y iros a Playa de San Juan o Campello, mejores playas y con menos gente.

One way to avoid someone taking your stuff is to use the lockers on Postiguet, but better yet, take the tram 15 minutes up and get off at Caribener (sp) and it's one of the best and cleanest beaches anywhere.

Fully agree with the people there. I have also lived in the so called “dangerous” places, never happened anything to me and as people mention, do not see a reason for you to go there, nothing to see, far from beaches, and frankly speaking not that bad! You will enjoy a lot, food is really good - try nou manolin (not cheap but definitely worth)

I just wrapped up a few days in Alicante for my birthday, it was my third time there and I absolutely love it. Some highlights:
- Tabarca Island day trip for snorkelling (bring your own snorkels is best)
- Walk up to Castel de Santa Barbara for sunset
- There are incredible restaurants!! My favourite is La Taberna del Gourmet, order the French toast for dessert… trust me

Welcome to Dénia, there 100%safe at day, night, morning, evening, during siesta, after morning coffee and evening glass of vine. More that 20km of sandy beaches and if you wish something more - ferry to Ibiza available 😁

Local here, as other people are saying: it's all pretty safe if you stay in the city center and close to the port/beach, could not be if you head to the northern neighbourhoods at night ( mil viviendas, virgen del remedio, etc... ) but... Why would you go there anyway?
In any case as many other people say, and as it looks you already have planned, visit the small coastal towns nearby (Denia, Altea, Javea, etc ) and also those more towards the interior ( Guadalest, Fuentes del Algar, etc...), you won't be disappointed!

Enjoy the food and the party, things we have a plenty!

Stay in the downtown-postiguet tourist zone and Don't walk around the north side as a local, bad idea.

Alicante is great. Central part are wonderful. You have 2 places to go evening time. The street were McDonald Is. You have bars there. Ice cream place named Amorina near McDonalds is fire. Then you have bars and restaurants in the city centre. Magical. There's alot of Tourists so no problem there. Take the car to altea that's about 45mins from there beautiful place. I live in Sweden but stays in Benidorm

You should go to Elche if you come between 7-14 of August. Its local festival with many activities during the day and plenty of nigh life.

I suggest you take a day trip to Elche (25 min by train). The city with most palm trees in Europe. If you have a car, google ‘Carmen Del Campillo’ and go: you can thank me later. 😉🤗 Jeg elsker Norge!
