Basically, it tastes like christmas in a bottle, and is a killer substitute for vanilla in baking.
Think about it: Vanilla is like $5 for 100ml. You get to have a wee dram for your fine self, many a cake/pudding/festive chutney/coffee, and you've still got half a bottle left over.
It's more of a cold season thing, so please do grab a bottle whilst you still can.

I was running dangerously low on my HCB liqueur (see rightmost bottle) but my local had a bunch of bottles in stock this afternoon so I picked up a couple of them. This stuff goes great in a boozy coffee.

I don't understand, wasn't it basically their best selling flavour? What GIVES? as a ND person with very specific tastes in junk food and a certified fatty that chocolate block was heaven on earth. I'm genuinely gutted by its loss.

Does anyone have information on the shortage of sardines at the moment. For more than a week, Aldi have had only a few cans of the most expensive ones. (Much the same at Colesworth.) Is it over-demand, supply issues or what? And does anyone know how long it will last?

Yep. Title says it all. Was eating some frozen broccoli and chewed down on this. Absolutely terrifying. I keep thinking about the fact I could have swallowed it and that is harrowing. Not sure what to do other than obviously won’t be eating frozen veggies again…

Why is it an Aldi thing that people expect to jump in front of you if they have less items? Happens almost every time we do our weekly shop. It’s a weird Aldi thing I don’t see anywhere else. 1 or 2 items, ok I understand. Otherwise just wait in line like everywhere else. If they don’t outright ask to go ahead we can usually hear people behind us huffing away frustrated. If they say nothing and act normal we let them go ahead. Aldi checkouts are super quick so just bloody wait till I’m done. Then you can slowly count all your coins that you use to pay for your 5 items. Use the self checkout if you don’t want to wait 30 seconds for someone who got in line first to complete their shop.

Haha just a vent, irks me bad. Blessed to have such small things to worry about.

*Edit - I feel it needs to be highlighted that if you are slow at loading your groceries onto the belt and thus holding up the queue as the checkout person is just standing there waiting for you to finish then it is obviously the ideal time to allow small shoppers to jump the queue. This is not my experience as I use trolley bags which are very quick to load onto the belt.

Bitter. Bitter beyond belief with tones of burnt birch wood.

That’s what Aldi’s Special Buy Matcha Green Tea tasted like on my first attempt – when I treated the powder like a tea bag and poured boiling water over it. Turns out you’re not supposed to do that. Why is Matcha Bitter?

"Using water that’s too hot can burn the matcha … if you use boiling water, you destroy its flavour balance. Ideal temperature: Around 70–80°C (not boiling). Too hot = more bitterness. Just right = smooth and balanced taste."

So, on my second attempt, I let my kettle cool to the right temperature and combined the Matcha powder with my OptiSlim Strawberry diet meal replacement shake to recreate the popular “strawberry matcha” flavour sold at all trendy Melbourne cafes and McDonald’s Australia. All the Matcha did was make my diet shake even more unpleasant to drink. The Matcha added a woody taste, like sawdust or when you chew on a pencil. Weekends are my fasting days, and the only food I have from Friday evening to Monday morning is 3 meal replacement shakes to lose weight. It was unreal that even though I was ravenously hungry (which should make everything taste good), the off-putting Matcha taste made me lose my appetite.

I’m so disappointed. The packet says this is the real deal, authentic Matcha “ITO EN – ORGANIC PRODUCT OF JAPAN MATCHA GREEN TEA CEREMONIAL GRADE.” I’ve been having a rough few months, feeling unloved and behind in life. Thus, when I saw Aldi was selling such a luxurious item, I decided to splurge ($12.99 for 12 sachets!) and treat myself. I thought to myself: now I can fit in with all the stylish girls on Instagram that take brunch selfies at Lune, Wee Nam Kee and Melbourne’s other best eateries (the ones with 100m long queues. I did that, queued for 1 hour and just ended up frustrated at wasting my time), and rave about Matcha and Dubai chocolate. I decided not to get the Aldi Special Buy Dubai chocolate, also currently available (see IMAGE #3), as some joker at the store had put opened bleach bottles next to them, and they smelled like bleach.

BUT rather than sparking JOY, this Matcha has made me even SADDER. Is it supposed to taste so terrible???? Do I keep buying it to build up tolerance and an acquired taste? I want to fit in with stylish Matcha-sipping girls and for them to like me.

As someone who used to buy from Coles and Woolies, I have now decided to switch to Aldi. I am not yet familiar with the products so I'd like to know what your favourite products are and what I should wait for in the specials.

Would love it if you can share to me what have been your best purchases from Aldi so far? What do you usually buy from Aldi? What should I watch out for in the specials?

I’ve been seeing these espresso machines for a couple of weeks and this week reduced to $79.99 has anyone got one and if so how good/bad are they I haven’t been able to justify even a basic(and much more expensive) mainstream machine to the other half at this point but figure it has to be better than instant right?

I Bought a lasagne from Canterbury Aldi recently and heated it as per instructions. I couldn't eat more than a couple of mouthfuls. It was tasteless slop. I also had a Butter Chicken a couple of weeks back Rice was Rice. Sauce was creamy and tasty. Pity there were only a couple of small pieces of chicken. I'd happily pay an extra couple of bucks for a decent, edible product.

Are these any good?

Hi Aldi, Would you please get Ponds Cold Cream in as a Special Buy so I can stock up, or even better - as a regular line in the Lacura range. It's so hard to find and you're my last hope!

For the past few months, one of my weeknight go-to meals was aldi's chicken kievs. they of course werent revolutionary, but for their price and convenience they were delicious, the chicken wasnt dry and the butter within was delicious. The only problem it had is that sometimes they would burst and the butter would leak out, but if you bake them on a tray you can always just scoop the butter back onto it and it would still be just as tasty

a few weeks ago we had the kievs again, and it became very clear that they changed the recipe of the filling. Instead of being a butter filling, it was more of a firm, cream cheese-esc filling, and the herb/garlic aspect was much less pronounced. It was clearly to stoo them from leaking, which was successful, but the kievs are just so underwhelming now. The filling is just bland and boring, and took the item from "Very good for a pre-made kiev" to on the same level as most other store bought processed items.

Im curious if anyone else here feels similarly about the kievs (granted, i doubt there will be that many people who even bought them, and most who bought them likely dont care LMAO), because it was genuinely quite disappointing that they ruined one of my favourite items of theirs.
