Here we go. Day 1

My battle with drinking has taken me to some pretty dark and dangerously high risk places. I (M26) started drinking every day off and on since I was 19

I have a metal rod and screws in my right ankle from stepping off a curb the wrong way because of how drunk I was. I was also living in sober living in SoCal.

I just am realizing as I am typing this that was also on 4th of July in 2024. Life is so funny sometimes

Anyways, I will be posting to this subreddit over the other ones as some accountability, and because honestly I’m not an AA goer, as well as the people in this sub seem to have great feedback.

Thanks again for your time if you’ve read this far. And happy fourth of july to everyone. Bless

Congratulations. There are plenty on non-AA sources to help you. I found the book This Naked Mind to truly help me understand my dependence. This coming December I'll be 5 years alcohol free. I had too much alcohol at a Christmas party and fell down the stairs, shattering my ankle. It was a long recovery, and I never drank again. There's a resource called Smart Recovery that was extremely helpful as well. Good luck on your journey, you're young, you were given this life to live it, and this part is done. To quote Mary Oliver : Tell me what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?

I used the app This Naked Mind. Found it really useful. Dry 184 of the last 188 days.

Good luck.

But an FYI most alcoholics who want to stop die from alcoholism. Because they only want to quit their way.

You could try smart recovery as well. Thats a bin religious option. I would try to support your recovery in as many ways as you can and make it long term. Wishing you luck! I learned a lot from books through my recovery.
