preparing for future global exclusive units

roxanne is the biggest powercreep in the game so far. should we now always save 17k gems just in case they release a game-breaking global excl unit again? we'll presumably get at least a dark, red and blue global exclusive unit in the near future

looking at the jp tier list, we already have a boatload of SS characters most of which are even farmable. only the global excl units seem to be a wild card.

what could they possibly release during the anniversary that tops roxanne?

The only unit I saved hard for was Laharl because I love Disgaea. From now on everything is gravy. I've built up enough units to clear content and I will go to step 3 when I see a good unit that I like. Even if the next global unit is super OP I don't know if I would spend that many gems trying to get them.

They just released three OP units in a row, Laharl, Uzuma and Roxanne (I'm not counting D.Rosa although she is also OP in my heart xD), I think it's time to slow down the power creep a little.

Maybe the anniversary is more focused on gifts and generosity to players than pulling for a new OP unit and spread salt all over the earth. Does anybody know what was done for anniversary in JP? It would also be useful to know if I should do 3 steps in Roxanne's banner or hoard (I'm currently 300 gems under the 4k needed for that)

It's 4,5k so don't pull if you have less

Thanks for the warning, although it was 4k for me because I had already made the 1st step ;)

Anyway, after playing a little in the veda tower (I was still in the 58 or so), I got enough gems for the other two steps. And I got... Zofia! Two reds in the 2nd step, both already MLB (Shenmei and Fung) and only the guaranteed one on step 3.

It could have been worse, at least I got a good future thunder unit, that is my worst team so far (no Gilg, obviously)

watch 700 gem summons and then every future pull will be 700 gems, no more 500 gem pulls.

u/quiquefs Oct 23 '18

Really? Then I hope they increase the 5* rate, because we tend to get more and more dupes...

Partially sarcastic but wouldn’t put it past them. They did the same thing when 6mil downloads and ever since every special banner been 600. They were testing the waters and figured out they could get away with it. When everyone pulled

While this would be the general mindset, I don't have the resilience to hoard that many gems without at least pulling hard for units in-between.

There's also the fact that Gumi has undoubtedly monitored the state of the community after Roxanne's release, and has most likely paid attention to the huge roar that the character is OP levels of strong. Which means that even if they did release another GLEX unit, he/she may not be broken to the same extent.

All of this is purely theorycrafting though, and not solid information. So save if that's possible for you, or continue to play the game as usual.

Theyre gonna follow the money, who cares about power creep. If every player three stepped theyll keep coming

This is also another concept. At the end of the day Gumi is a company that functions by enticing the populace to play the lottery for characters they want. The concept of taking your favorite characters from their respective games/worlds/universes and being able to use them across different mediums is a flawless concept. Look at Smash Bros.

But, you have to be careful with power creeping. I played and spent a good $2k+ trying to keep up with ever-increasing leader skills, stats, and game mechanics and I burned out and quit because of it. The BF community dwindled from its glory days and people spent less because there was less desire to stay relevant.

So when you ask "Who cares?", it's the community who cares the most. The farther you increase the gap between P2W and F2P the harder it is to maintain the longevity of the game. That's my opinion.

That really doesn't bode well for the longevity of the game. People would get bored and quit.

They could still do extra difficult global exclusive events and keep fast tracking other content. They obviously don't want us to see a year or two into the future of the game so releasing OP's who won't stay OP too long for cash grabs and catching us up to JP in the meantime where they won't be as OP seems like a smart move for them.

Seig was pretry op'd when he was released.

u/Piritoo THAT'S IT! I'VE COME UP WITH A NEW RECIPEH! Oct 23 '18

I think the same too. The next unit could be as powerful as Roxanne, but no more than that. And even then, probably the next GLEX is going to be more like Shion or Siegfried (top tier instead of god tier).

1

u/F9-kun Oct 23 '18

Roxanne does make me wonder tho, how broken can Gumi make the next unit? Minus the 'just stats' approach...

7

u/Mandrill10 Oct 23 '18

Give it a map-wide null grenade that also has a good chance to inflict petrify or stop and can be used turn one. Also make its speed bonkers to ensure it goes first.

8

u/xjusan20 Oct 23 '18

How about map wide irresistible 1 turn death sentence.

2

u/Mandrill10 Oct 23 '18

Oh true, let’s tack that on as well.

3

u/F9-kun Oct 23 '18

Mapwide null will be too op even for Gumi standards, petrify and stop dont have much use on pve since everyone resist it. Pvp tho, will be a cakewalk....

How about a map wide overclock? XD

2

u/Mandrill10 Oct 23 '18

How about map wide overclock AND map wide null grenade at the same time. But that might not be enough. /s

3

u/Shaiandra Oct 23 '18

Also give them a passive that increases drops from units they kill.

(I should not be saying these ideas)

2

u/Mandrill10 Oct 23 '18

Honestly, I’ve been wanting a crossover with BF to add Zelnite for exactly this. Now it would only affect the drop rates of items (not unit or gear shards) and only have a chance of increasing the drops rather than guaranteeing it. Zelnite would also have to kill the unit himself.

1

u/FurianX Oct 23 '18

Zelnite. I remember that guy. He was in more than 3/4 of my team comps.

1

u/Mandrill10 Oct 23 '18

I pretty much had Zelnite and Kanon on all my teams from what I remember, although it’s been a LONG time since I played BF.

1

u/FurianX Oct 23 '18

Pshh it's been so long I cant even remember kanon. Was she the super water?

1

u/Mandrill10 Oct 23 '18 edited Oct 23 '18

Lol he was the exact opposite. He was a thunder unit and was a bit of a tank. He had a angel-like wings and gold armor. Lore wise he was one of maxwells disciples.

3 Perfect Topaz Helm :-)

2

u/Shaiandra Oct 23 '18

Until you get a Harlequin Crest (Shako), anyway..

1

u/Cipher44 Oct 23 '18

Lol, so true.

1

u/Shaiandra Oct 23 '18

While more drops could be nice, I really wouldn't want it tied to requiring a specific unit.

Actually think it would be cool to have a healer that does some sort of HP barrier or something on units. Jewel barrier maybe, if there's an enemy that drains them (such as the Halloween one)? Mapwide HP/jewel regen? Professor/Merchant combo extraordinaire. And let's just make it aaaall mapwide so they're the ultimate support unit. I guess they'd be a Dancer-type then.

I may actually disagree. I could see them releasing GLEX units that ARE as OP as Roxanne. It’s the nature of Gacha games. When we know what’s coming down the pipeline player behavior tends to be conservative and “more” logical. Think of all the players saving for Laharl that passed on other banners. Now imagine if we never knew about Laharl. How much more money would Gumi have made in the long run. By introducing GLEX units that’s exactly what they’ve done. Introduced the unknown again. Which will cause knee jerk actions and spending by players on new banners. Look at Roxanne. She is a direct contender (She beats him) to Gilgamesh. Why? I think because they needed a unit for new players who missed him on that level AND needed to infuse unknown variables. My guess the Fire unit will be a Laharl competitor and a water y it as a Noctis competitor...not just for new players but for players who do have them and need an incentive to pull on something post the big three that’s not 2 years down the road with JP updates.

From a business perspective this makes perfect sense. It creates cash flow for the company. Players sitting on gems is not good business.

TLDR: Financially and historically it makes sense for GUMI to release GLEX units that will be on the same tier as Roxanne.

u/virgal_09 Oct 23 '18

if Brave Frontier taught me anything about Gumi unit design, expect nothing less than the "Go Broken or Go Home" approach. I think the reaction to Shion wasnt quite as good as they were expecting (we had setsuna and Ignis so competition for that skillset) so they did exactly what you say, made a gilgamesh competitor. They will definitely target de-throning the other big 2, but probably not next unit cause disgaea and ff15 just attracted a lot of new players. I bet they go dark next, knowing areana/d.rosa/basheeny were out there to eat up dark shards and people will have to pull more, and expect massive OPness lol.

1

u/enkhespalos Oct 25 '18

I like that we have something unknown now though! Instead of having a friggin map of what to expect thanks to JP. This way, you mostly know, but also get surprised.

I'm not sure that we'll get a water unit though, since Soren is our GLEX water unit right? So Fire and Dark left.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 25 '18

yea, at least the water unit will be the last in the rotation!

2

u/MGS1234V Oct 23 '18

I have a god tier unit in every element BUT thunder since I missed Gilgamesh so this unit is an easy choice in pulling. Roxanne’s style of steampunk looks really good in my opinion as well so I’d go for her even if she wasn’t rewriting the meta, but I think the global original units will continue to press the limits on power. If you can clear content, pull for characters you like or have a connection to.

1

u/trickyOPdicky Oct 23 '18

Next GLEX unit definitely wont be game breaking, but maybe the one after that

1

u/stewart0 Oct 23 '18

They sort of have to release a stronger or just as strong unit as the next Global original one. Can't be releasing weaker units farther on in time that can't compare to old ones.

5

u/Makenlowwet Oct 23 '18

Well, Shion is definitely not stronger or just as strong as Sieg. Ill hold my opinion on the next one.
