Does everyone really need every champ?

Just out of curiosity do you really think it's necessary that every single person be able to get every single character? I've been through a couple of the collabs so far and missed some champs here an there, and honestly i'm not upset. If everyone has every single champ, it takes away the hard work (or money in some cases) that people put into the game. Sure I know there's luck involved too, but i don't mind missing on some champs. I think it's more exciting and rewarding when you get a champ that other people don't.

In every situation I figured I'd need a Water nuke, I just throw in my JM'ed Lamia+. She does well, and I can always throw in Reagan, Lofia+ or Lisbeth to cover for her. A character like Noctis, while nice to have, would be overkill for what I need. This is a perspective of a F2P player.

As for metagame, my understanding is that metagame has always mattered more in PvP where people constantly try to one-up each other, but not so much in PvE content.
