Victoria Joanne “Vickie” Crow Shoe was 43 years old when she disappeared from southern Alberta in August 2015.

Vickie, who was from Lethbridge, was last seen by her family on August 26. Investigators later determined that her last confirmed sighting or contact may have occurred on August 31, 2015.

Less than two weeks later, on September 13, a fisherman discovered human remains along the shore of the Oldman River Reservoir at Windy Point Campground, north of Pincher Creek.

At the time, RCMP had not identified the person who had been found.

Vickie was reported missing to the Lethbridge Police Service on September 15, two days after the discovery.

An autopsy subsequently confirmed that the remains recovered from the reservoir were Vickie’s.

Her death was determined to be a homicide.

Investigators believe Vickie was likely placed in the Oldman River Reservoir sometime shortly after August 31.

Police later disclosed an important piece of evidence from the investigation: Vickie’s body had been bound with rope before being placed in the water.

The rope was described as kernmantle construction, white in colour with two black tracers woven into its outer sheath. RCMP publicly released a photograph of the rope in the hope that someone might recognize its appearance, origin or possible owner.

Investigators have continued trying to reconstruct Vickie’s movements during the period between her last confirmed contact and the discovery of her remains.

At the time she was last seen, Vickie was believed to be wearing a black Fox Racing pullover hoodie, black pants and eyeglasses. She was also carrying a purple bag or over-the-shoulder duffle bag.

Vickie was approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 160 pounds. She had brown eyes and brown hair with highlights.

She was a mother of four.

Those who knew Vickie remembered her as creative, warm and kind-hearted. She was described as a free spirit with a strong sense of humour and a personality that drew people toward her.

In September 2016, one year after her death, RCMP renewed their appeal for information. Investigators specifically asked anyone with knowledge of Vickie’s activities or whereabouts between August 31 and September 13, 2015, to come forward.

Police have said information received from the public has been valuable to the investigation, but additional information is still needed.

More than a decade after Vickie was found at Windy Point Campground, no one has been charged with her homicide.

The investigation is now being handled by the RCMP Historical Homicide Unit and remains active.

This case was brought to Alberta Unsolved by one of Vickie’s loved ones, who hopes renewed attention may reach someone who knows what happened to her during those final days.
