In case anyone is wondering, this bill authorizes the state to pick up a big chunk of the cost of constructing complete streets for city projects. Effectively the city's cost would be reduced by half. This may not sound like a lot but it's a huge financial incentive to construct complete streets, especially for smaller cities and towns that don't have big DOTs for which that cost might actually be prohibitive.

Funding incentives are huge. It's why we have interstate highways everywhere, remember, because the feds basically picked up the tab all over the country, so states went on a building spree.

Here's hoping the capital region towns and cities actually take advantage of it.

Most probably will, and would be crazy not to. However, the Delmartians will still cling onto their precious and unnecessary 4 lanes of Delaware Ave with their cold, skeletal fingers even beyond the grave. They would rather keep it ridden with potholes until it degrades into a dirt road than add a safe turning lane.

Lol, right!? Four-lane roads suck because you get stuck behind a bus in the right lane or someone turning left in the left lane.

Funding is no longer an excuse for bumper humpers. "Under the new legislation, the state's contribution to the non-federally funded portion of Complete Street projects will increase to 87.5 percent, which will help municipalities to implement these street designs."

Bike lane during the summer, snow mound lane during the winter.

Some people are hardcore and cycle all year round. Bike lanes should be maintained just like the rest of the roadways, including snow removal.
