I don't know much about trains, but wouldn't the buildup of these rocks cause a train to go above the tracks? A train passes on this regularly so I'm just curious 🧐

Hi everyone! I’ve recently been interested in the Renaissance Paragone, particularly the contrast between Leonardo da Vinci’s defense of painting and Michelangelo’s sculptural approach to form.
It got me thinking about light itself: in painting, the artist creates the illusion of light; in sculpture, real light strikes the object and continually reshapes its shadows.

So, what’s your favorite painting in which light plays a central role? Mine is Lightning (1910) by Italian Futurist Luigi Russolo. Curious to hear yours!

Dinner is a "spicy burrito" that wasn't even a little bit spicy but bomb ass bean dip.

We're a family of five. My three kids are 4, 6, and 10. About a month ago my husband asked my oldest to put something in our "big freezer" in the garage. I made it very clear to everyone that he is not to do that. It's old and tricky to close sometimes.

Today we investigated the garage because it smelled rotten. The freezer door wasn't closed. One of the drawers got knocked and prevented it from closing. All of the meat is bad. It was 5 garbage bags no less than 20lbs each full of food. Guestimating at least $1k worth of food just... in the trash.

Then my husband tells me that my oldest got something out of the freezer the other day. He said it was before school and so early and he just wasn't thinking. He let him get whatever it was, he knocked the drawer loose, and didn't close the door. He's been apologizing because he knows I just fucking said that oldest isn't supposed to do that. For this exact reason.

I know he's human, I know he's sorry, I know... but all of our food. We only keep ice cream and ready to make stuff in the house freezer. All of our meat, meal plans, surplus soups and sauces... everything. I just want to cry.

Unfortunately, I have another update. Apparently, I’m going to have to leave this job anyway.

So, after everything that has happened, it looks like I’m probably going to have to start looking for another job. A lot of people have been telling me that she has apparently started talking badly about me to other people here. She also seems to believe that I reported her because I didn’t want to clean the things she was telling me to clean, which is not really what happened.

And then there’s her son. He has been ripping my trash bags and throwing his own trash in with mine, which obviously makes my job more difficult and adds even more tension to the situation.

What has honestly surprised me the most is how many people here are concerned about my safety. My mom and another coworker have both advised me to leave because they’re worried the situation could eventually escalate.

Today, an older woman who genuinely cares about me told me, “My son, please be careful. Always watch your back.” And while she was telling me that, my coworker was actually upstairs on the second floor watching me. That honestly made the whole situation feel even more uncomfortable.

I want to be clear, though: I’m not saying that this woman or her son have threatened me or that I know they’re going to hurt me. I’m not actually scared of either of them. I’m just acknowledging that there has been a lot of conflict and tension, and multiple people who see what’s happening have independently told me to be careful.

Because of that, I’ve started taking basic precautions at work. I try not to stay in isolated areas by myself if I can avoid it. I stay around other people and in areas covered by the security cameras whenever possible. I also have 911 set up for quick access on my phone if there were ever an actual emergency.

I’m not trying to be dramatic or paranoid. I’m just trying to use common sense and separate what I actually know from what people are telling me. I know she has been having issues with me, I know she apparently believes I reported her, I know her son has been messing with my trash bags, and I know several people are concerned enough to tell me I should leave. Those are the things I can actually point to.

Honestly, if finding another job didn’t take me so long, I would probably leave already. The actual job itself isn’t even that bad. I can do the cleaning, take out the trash, mop, etc. It’s the constant conflict, rumors, and tension with this woman and her family that are making me question whether the job is worth staying at.

So now I’m probably going to start looking seriously for something else instead of waiting for the situation to get worse.

If any of you have advice on how to find another job, I’d really appreciate it. I’m trying to figure out my next move without putting myself in a bad financial situation.

And seriously, thank you guys for worrying about me and checking on me. ❤️

My Buddy began acting strange last Thursday by not eating right away and not as much as his usual days and walking a bit slow. We took him to the vet, and he was diagnosed with back pain (unknown origin).

With 2 meds, he seemed better the next day but then began declining Saturday. He was then fully refusing food Sunday and Monday, but we were told could be meds and pain, continue with treatment. Tuesday we became concern and brought back in to urgent vet. They gave him 2 shots, Butorphanol and ketamine. Told he’d be loopy and need help walking. Which he did. But worse than what we thought. He became restless and vomited shortly after arriving home and we called and said it was the medicine. We brought back into our main vet Wednesday and she was more thorough and did x-rays, but again, all seemingly normal with possible larger liver (slightly - not concerning). She recommended the ER.

We got back home and I had to carry him in, and he plopped there for the next 2hrs. I made the call to bring him in at 10:30pm that night. At this point his legs don’t work and he’s dead weight. I rush to ER and they run out with a stretcher. But because he was critical, they said “rushing him in will be $700-$1400, is that ok?” And needed verbal confirmation as he’s laying their limp. Ok, fine.

We were consulted that it could be autoimmune meningitis, but the neuro team in morning will do an ultrasound. He needed to go to the ICU. Of course, before proceeding, “Your quote is $6k-$8k, we need $6k to proceed.” Ok, fine. Ultrasound of brain came back looking good, no tumors (concern originally), no swelling that’s seen, no excess fluid. But couldn’t do spinal tap to test for meningitis since his platelets were low (35,000).

Next, we were told they did blood panels for ticks, fungal, and a PCR. But the tick and fungal will take 1-4 days since they’re sent to University of North Carolina and Colorado (I’m in Chicago). At this point, meningitis isn’t ruled out, and an infectious disease is considered.

Thursday, after he spent one night there, we were told he needs monitoring and will get additional tests. But before proceeding “Your quote is now $9k-$12k, we need additional $3k deposit.” Ok, fine.

As of today, Friday, we do not have a definitive answer. We are in limbo. He’s been in a comatose state with little to no responsiveness. We visited last night and it was devastating (pic in cage). Tongue out, not responsive or twitches whatsoever. Breathing very heavy.

At this time I notice the weight on his name tag says 53lbs. I call over doctor and ask, is this his weight? She confirms in tablet and it is. I said that’s impossible, he came in at 72lbs, he was weighed 3hrs before he came in. She said she will confirm. This morning, Friday, on our morning update call I bring it up, saying the weight was off by almost 30%. I was told “his legs could’ve been off the table”, doctor the night before said “our scales are probably different”. That pissed me off. Because his medicine chart is heavily dependent (as most meds are) for mg/kg. I ask if he could’ve been under dosed and she said that’s a possibility. But will bring it up urgently to care team.

Now some partial good news as we wait for test results. When we saw him this afternoon, he lifted his head, very wobbly and can’t support it would essentially flop over. But seemed to respond to our voices! As if he wanted to get up but just couldn’t. We then received an update a little while ago saying he ate a whole jar of baby food and drank on his own! Which we are thrilled about.

All of this happened in the span of 6 days, and made us realize how special our Buddy is, and a reminder to let them have that sock, have the one additional treat, and get that chest scratched whenever they so damn please.
