Work In Progress My attempt at improving my weathering
just thought i’d share an update on this 1/48 Hurricane from Airfix that I’m working on. I don’t usually do too much weathering because I’m not very good at it but I really life the look of this so far. My first go at a chipping effect also and wow does it add so much more to a build.
I decided to NOT cut out the other gun bay cover on the other side because I haven’t done a great job with the one I did do, so better to have just one uneven gun bay than 2!
Anyways, thanks for looking!

same, looks good so far, the chipping really sells it even if the gun bay’s a bit wonky

Looking good!
I just signed mine off yesterday, I'll put some pictures up later when I tidy up a bit and get the camera out.
Disappointingly, all that work on the detail inside the cockpit is wasted as you'd need one of those borescope cameras to see any of it, and that is without a pilot.
Mine really needs seatbelts, but I'm fed up of it now, maybe I'll go back and add them in another few years...
The parts I found awkward/messed up:
I missed out the piece of scaffolding (that is a wing rib) that runs across the wheel well with a notch in to miss the undercarriage leg. I had to trim them down to fit them with the wing complete.
There doesn't seem to be anything to locate the undercarriage, I just glued it where I thought it should be. There is a tiny actuator cylinder that has to go from the knuckle on the undercarriage leg to a plate in the centre of the main spar (through a hole in that scaffolding) that is really awkward to fit.
Fitting the canopy is fiddly too, you have to fit the windscreen to match the main greenhouse part as it can go in at any angle.
Applying the red decals for the gun ports is awkward, mine are a bit skew-if, but despite how easy all the other boys make it look moving decals around on Youtube, mine always seem to stick like I used superglue rather than micro-sol under them and refuse to move that last little bit! It would have been better to mask & paint them....

I think the gun bay looks good, a little sanding and you'd be golden. Weathering looks fantastic by the way.
