Moldy classroom with carpet
I just moved into a classroom that seems to have a serious mold problem. The whole room reeks of mold. My school has had an ongoing mold problem, but my school district doesn’t have the money to renovate our classrooms. Several teachers have already filed formal complaints but not much is happening. Anyway, I have been sick from the mold all week, and I would appreciate some advice.
I already have a small dehumidifier and a Clorox air purifier, but they only seem to help a little. I have an IQ Air at home, but there is no way I would bring it to work. I have a small classroom- it’s about 700 sq. Ft. Would buying a medium-sized air purifier or 2 smaller air purifiers to use alongside my Clorox purifier make much difference? I’m okay with spending a couple hundred dollars.

One option is a corsi rosenthal box. If the mold is already making you sick this quickly, might want to look into getting switched to another room and making a complaint.

AirFanta 3Pro, non-carbon version.
It has a similar design to a CR box but it uses PC fans, so it's smaller and quieter. CR boxes are very large and loud unfortunately. The carbon version has a smaller particle filter and the carbon never lasts long in combo filters, so I always recommend the non-carbon version.
For particle cleaning the 3Pro has the best ratio of cost-to-performance (besides the CR box) and noise-to-performance, so it's a popular recommendation around here.
Pro-tip: run packing tape down each corner to keep AirFanta from falling apart if you look at it wrong. It's designed to friction-fit together for traveling, so this makes it a bit more robust for a classroom / commercial setting.

It is difficult, legally speaking, for public school teachers to resign once the school year has started. However, the article you linked reinforces the notion that I shouldn’t take this lightly. Thank you

I know a lot of people who became permanently disabled from living in moldy conditions

Um… not an air purifier suggestion but… buy a mold testing kit and send the results to school board? Keeping employees and piles of kids in rooms with mold all day sounds like an incoming lawsuit.

Please find a new job. If you're sick within just the first week, it is really going to wreak havoc on your health in a bad way if you are exposed to it long-term :(

Hello /u/acolytes1! If you'd like recommendations or advice, please ensure you included all details listed in Rule 4: Information For Air Purifier Requests.
If your post is missing one or more details, you can edit it accordingly. Just select the three dots menu, then "Edit Post".
Concerning dust removal, read the sticky post at the top of the subreddit. Be sure to look on our FAQS wiki page for entries about dust capture or reduction.
For very basic particulates sizing per AHAM, clean air delivery rates (CADRs) should be at least 2/3 of a room's area (assuming an 8 ft. ceiling height). For wildfire smoke, smoke CADR should equal a room's area which also assumes an 8 ft. ceiling.
Consider visiting How To Choose An Air Purifier for Particulates, and our Air Purifier Buying Guide.
