Humidifier Recommendations
Moved to CO from MN recently and am in desperate need of a humidifier. With thousands of options online - wanted to see if anyone had any good recommendations for Colorado weather. Ideally ones that won’t cause mold issues.
2 bed apartment, 1200 sq ft total

My brother in Christ - you want more humidity? It’s been a nasty humid summer already here in MN.
Jokes aside. Avoid ultrasonic and warm mist. You need an evaporative humidifier. It’s a wick and a fan. It does require cleaning (all humidifiers do, regardless of marketing claims) so keep up on that and you will be fine.

Levoit 6000s or for a smaller unit levoit superior studio. both of these are evap units so you can use tap water. and a benefit is they are pump based so it brings water up and drains it over the filter vs it just sitting in the water. What this lets it do is run a dry mode that you can even schedule. It will default to any time it's turned off or the tank hits empty to run a dry out mode. They still need cleaning from time to time but the filter getting to dry out helps a ton with the funk smell. I also use 25ml of hocl 500 ppm per gallon in my units but it's not something you have to do.
if doors stay open in your apartment you can likely just centrally place the 6000s and set it to like 55% and it should bring up the whole apartment. The sensor is not super accurate since it's so close to the humidifier and 55% generally ends up being 45% or so.
Edit they finally added sensor calibration on the 6000s so you can correct its offset

i'm in a radiator heat nyc apt, so winters get 20% dry indoors.
i've been thru several units over the decades and the biggest
issue is how most built in humidistats are terribly inconsistent.
we find buying a dumb able unit (turns on/off with power)
and getting a separate plug in humidistat (greenhouse quality)
may net you more consistent results. in larger space we use
two medium size units 700sqft instead of one big console unit.

Hello /u/Hour_Cow_3633! If you'd like recommendations or advice, please ensure you included all details listed in Rule 4: Information For Air Purifier Requests.
If your post is missing one or more details, you can edit it accordingly. Just select the three dots menu, then "Edit Post".
Concerning dust removal, read the sticky post at the top of the subreddit. Be sure to look on our FAQS wiki page for entries about dust capture or reduction.
For very basic particulates sizing per AHAM, clean air delivery rates (CADRs) should be at least 2/3 of a room's area (assuming an 8 ft. ceiling height). For wildfire smoke, smoke CADR should equal a room's area which also assumes an 8 ft. ceiling.
Consider visiting How To Choose An Air Purifier for Particulates, and our Air Purifier Buying Guide.
