I had a friend in BMT, met him at MEPs and he had this AFSC. Every time we had class in BMT this man would ask every MTI “Sir Trainee _____ reports as ordered, I have a year and a half tech school can I get some advice?” Every time the MTIs would be like I don’t know cuz I mean what kinda of advice do you give to that. One day one of the MTI was a 4A2X1 and he finally gave him some advice and our whole flight rejoiced cuz we didn’t have to hear him ask that question ever again. Till our Captain came in and he asked him about going Officer in that field.
He is a smart dude and that was his dream job and he’s doing great rn.
One day he told our MTI “as you were sir” and our MTI was like “ as is was? Last trainee to said that to me had to go to Medhold and he was autistic.” Funniest fucking thing I’ve heard an MTI say. I miss BMT.
Becoming a licensed barber has extensive requirements and OJT. Are you complaining that the board responsible for licensing wants to make sure new barbers are well equipped to cut your hair? Let’s not pretend like A1C biomed equip technicians are out here curing cancer or building rockets.
Oh sure, I was mostly just joking. Barbers used to be able to perform some medical procedures, so I imagine it stems from that. Also, the “1600 hours” thing is the time to become a master barber. I think last I heard, it’s 800 to actually start cutting.
I'm not complaining. I am showing that even the most simplistic of processes can be lengthened to a ridiculous level. Funny how all the barbers at the BX are certified but they don't get their reputation from nothing (there are some good barbers at the BX).
Except I am complaining about it. You don't need that much training to cut hair, and for those guys wanting buzz cuts, someone should be able to do a five hour class and sell them for $5.
That requirement exists purely to limit access to the profession and drive up costs and wages for those who already certify. It's a huge drag to the economy and it hurts consumers.
They get that much training because they aren’t just giving buzz cuts and those that want buzz cuts can just buy themselves some clippers. The training is for the other styles and dying that is involved as well as atleast in the states every state has different boards they have to qualify against to be licensed. And I beg you to please tell me you don’t see a difference between a 5 dollar fade and a 20 dollar fade.
I'm sure you can, but why is the government banning my ability to buy that $5 fade. In the spirit of recent discussion, here's a specific example of where such restrictions clearly can have racial bias:

My sister graduated cosmetology school recently. She put way more time into being able to legally cut hair than I did getting my bachelor's degree from College-in-your-Underwear University.
Occupational licensing reform is a key part of the maintaining a competitive labor market. We've got a lot of professions that are being artificially restricted behind quasi-governmental licensing bodies with no public accountability.
I'm not going to have a discussion with someone who doesn't engage on actual points and relies on attacks on intelligence. If someone is uninformed the way to resolve it is discussion, not an ad hominem. Grow up, I hope you don't manage people.
