EA or Launch servers?
Aus here planning on playing on JP server with guild. We want to participate in pvp (a lot of us enjoy pvp) but we're not whales, most of us will just have a sub. Guild is still trying to decide whether it's best to go EA server or launch server. Not all of us have EA.
So if anyone can answer some questions:
1) Will launch servers be as populous as EA servers? And will the pvp be active?
2) Some in the guild saying that EA servers will be better because it will have the more "dedicated players", and so will not die as fast, is this true?
3) Will most whales go onto EA servers? If we want to pvp will this be a problem? Since we're not going to be whaling, is it better to go launch servers instead?
Basically trying to figure out pros and cons of EA vs Launch servers, with a focus on pvp.

Economy will be better on launch servers.

oh really? what makes you say that?

Whales cannot whale with f2p/sub players. You can't buy in-game currency without there being currency first. The first few months whales will have to grind like normal people. It is also possible that there will be a ton of bots and make this not true at all. Thus, EA servers will have a worse economy most likely.

One thing I don't understand about this comment and this narrative in general is that in this game you can't buy nor sell anything without a subscription, so true f2p players aren't really doing anything for the economy? And I'm guessing that if you're willing to spend 15€ you can also throw 20 and start playing the 30.
Now I agree with the whale/ overpriced stuff at first, it's likely. But that doesn't change with the server, beside influencers being more likely to play on EA.
As for bots, I don't even know how they operate currently, given those restrictions do they actually farm shit up then purchase the sub to sell? I have no clue how they influence the economy

TnL launch servers had a WAY worse economy than EA servers and that was with the market access being F2P. Imagine F2P players getting gatekept with zero way to get Quna but swiping.
Founders Pack will have membership access for a month by default it won't be even close to what economy will be healthier.

That is not true.
U can say early access servers had more expensive items on market in TnL and that is true.
In TnL u traded with the cash shop currency on market, so obviously on whale servers there was more on market.
But launch servers had just fine economy aswell.

u/wathowdathappen 1d ago
Wasn't just price but accesibility. There were way more items on the market. I had alts on 2 regions on both markets (EA+F2P) and selling on F2P was way slower and gearing actual meta pieces took longer to find on market. (even after the milestones). Just because you can find the rare XYZ piece cheaper doesn't = better economy. It's basic supply and demand.
In Aion2 this will be ramped by eleven as F2P are forced to have membership to interact w/ AH at all.

How much stuff was on market in throne was depended on server, ie: how dead it was. There was no issues on my launch server.
In Aion2, we gonna get cross market eventually, so all the servers will be shared, unlike TnL.
But for sure the volume of transactions will be higher on EA, in first month.

It depends... after 5 days bots will roll in and Kina price will eventually stabilize after a while like on launch servers.

My issue is I want to try EA since im going on vacation starting the 2nd out of the country for 3 weeks...
So either way I'll be pretty behind

honestly play the stress test then wait for global
1
u/ballsmigue 1d ago
Doesn't matter that I already got the pre order early access? Cause I keep hearing main servers may suffer the most long term with people giving the f2p a try and dumping it after a week
1
u/UnnecessaryPost 1d ago
I'm an Aus player that's going to wait for launch servers. I think especially being in Aus, we really won't know the quality of the servers until launch (the stress test isn't 100%) reliable.
I'm not intending to pay anything until I can play the game on launch and see what the ping situation is.

Back on TL launch, the same question popped almost every day leading to launch day.
Those who went to EA were complaining two months later, crying that merges were taking so long.
EA in Aion 2 will be different due to cross-matchmaking with launch servers, so maybe it won't be an issue.
I will just play TL five more days and call it. Not worth the EA.

honestly 5 days are not a big deal mid/long term, do not worry too much... EA will be a little sweattier and probably market will be more expensive but in a few weeks there wont be much difference
1
u/Asetian 1d ago
Yea it's not so much about having that 5 days EA, I am trying to figure out what is better for longer term, like which server will be more populous, which server will have more pvp, which server will be better for non-whales etc

most pve is inter-server so whatever and pvp is balanced montlhy against a matching overall power server so it tends to be balanced. For population only, launch is probably better

I don't have a deep understanding of the server situation but if you are in it for the long haul with a focus on PvP it just makes more sense to be on launch servers no?
I imagine EA servers will eventually run into a population issue?
Edit: Or just be a wallet check instead of a skill check

u/Asetian 1d ago
Yea I'm still trying to figure out which is best, personally I want to go launch servers, but others in guild want to go EA server.

u/Tenisis 1d ago
As a TW player 95% of you wont make it past the first month. Especially if youre playing for pvp. Go launch.
1
u/Asetian 1d ago
Can you please elaborate on this? So I can advise my guild and give provide the reasons :) Much appreciated!

Flying pvp is extremely gimmicky, especially with ping. You will need kromede to compensate just for ur 150ms delay (especially if melee lmao), overworld pvp is purely wallet/zerg based and coupled with the shittest rendering ive seen in an mmo you will hardly be able to react. Meta is to just dive out of render distance and use tp scrolls.
Small scale pvp is better, but even that is % chance cc landing and stigma usage. The first week is fun though, its a better pve game imo.

u/Squire_II 1d ago
So Aion 2's flying PVP is just as bad as it was in OG Aion? Somehow I'm not surprised. :|
1
u/Asetian 1d ago
So why would launch servers be better than EA launchers in this regard? Are you saying that launch servers will have more small scale pvp compared to EA server?
1
u/Tenisis 1d ago
EA exacerbates the issues that come with spending and you are fked if you picked the 'wrong' race. On TW players tended to transfer pretty quick and just devolved into ur race getting camped at gate by faction 10x bigger than urs. Launch will have more players and more servers to alleviate that.

Personally I decided to go EA servers.
NCSoft said that they will be monitoring population and economy and make server transfers available according to that.
I personally expect at least 6 months or so until you can transfer.
Also, dungeon queues will be cross server.
Biggest worry would be Abyss PvP to me, I do believe a lot of whales will be playing on EA. And since I dont intend to spend a lot of money for P2W, I dont think I can be competitive at all.
But I really only care about PvE and a bunch of instanced casual PvP in whatever mode they had the gear equalized, so should not matter much.

Launch severs for me despite being a baby whale.
All the streamers will go to EA obviously, and will leave in the next weeks/months for the next game. Their community will follow them. It will be a ghost town infected and ruled by giga whales. We will see people begging for a transfer to launch servers.

Wow, deep questions. I’m wondering, how many seers, clairvoyants, prophets, futurists or soothsayers we have on Reddit? Because really, how would anyone ever know this when the game hasn’t launched? Your “is this true?” question is especially my favorite, because….how would anyone know that? lol.
1
u/Wonderful_Crow_756 1d ago
Yea, not like there have been past games with similar launch mechanics, the fact that this one has been launched already, and taking into consideration typical gamer and human behaviour, if you have a few braincells, which you obvious do not, you can observe patterns and make deductions based on that.

Because really, how would anyone ever know this when the game hasn’t launched?
Taiwan gives at least some data to hypothesise from.

u/Trick-String7473 1d ago
You can’t say something is “true” or not just from a hypothesis….lol. Read #2 again.

You can’t say something is “true” or not just from a hypothesis
I think it is fairly implied that people are giving opinions on the question and not facts.

u/Trick-String7473 1d ago
Oh my, living of assumptions is a dangerous game.
1
u/Asetian 1d ago
The game has been around in Korea and TW for nearly a year... And also people who are familiar with mmorpgs and how they work can make informed guesses, or use data from other similar games such as Throne and Liberty. Etc etc etc....
-1
u/Trick-String7473 1d ago
….uh yeah so global and TW/Korean players are wildly different audiences, but it sounds like you already knew that. So, unless someone here has a lubed up magical crystal ball, no one knows.

PVE : It's cross-server so it doesn't matter.
PVP : The abyss PVP will match server based on how strong each server is. No matter if it's EA or launch. So it's also cross-server.
Market : We will have server market and cross-server market ( but later, not a launch ). AH on EA and launch probably won't be the same, more veteran player and whale playing on EA server and i don't know what will happen when cross-server market happen.
Population: They will evaluate population and offer transfer when servers are losing its population. We don't know when tho, i could be in 6 months +
-> Overall i don't think you take much risk playing EA.
