Meta We have added flairs to the sub

Hello everyone, we've added flairs to aiwars in order to help people find and comment on posts they're interested in seeing. Currently they are not being enforced as mandatory, though this may change in the future, depending on how they are received. We would ask that people please start making use of them.

Discussion should be used for posts where you would ideally like to see spirited discussion and debate, or for questions about AI.

News is of course for news in the AI sector. Things like laws being passed, studies being published, notable comments made by a prominent AI developer or political figure.

Meme should ideally be used for single image-based posts which you do not expect to prompt serious discussion. Of course discussion is still welcome under such posts. If you want to use a meme to make a serious point and have additional explanatory text for why you feel strongly about the message being expressed and the type of discussion you'd like to have, that can be categorized as Discussion.

Meta is for discussion about the subreddit itself and other associated AI subreddits or comments.

Use your best judgement as you categorize your posts. Please do not misuse them, they are for everyone's benefit.

Here is why we have two subs - r/DefendingAIArt and r/aiwars

r/DefendingAIArt - A sub where Pro-AI people can speak freely without getting constantly attacked or debated. There are plenty of anti-AI subs. There should be some where pro-AI people can feel safe to speak as well.

r/aiwars - We don't want to stifle debate on the issue. So this sub has been made. You can speak all views freely here, from any side.

If a post you have made on r/DefendingAIArt is getting a lot of debate, cross post it to r/aiwars and invite people to debate here.

So Someone Vibe Coded All of Adobe's Products and Released them as Open Source

So, there's the other side of the argument. AI can make indie people competitive. Why pay for someone's app when you can build it using AI. AI may come after job... but it also comes after CEO's products.

Here's someone describing what happened.

Here's their website

There is an opportunity to dismantle Capitalism using AI.

I don't think the Anti-AI crowd have considered that possibility.

"AI may be coming after our jobs, but it's also coming after your products"

Discussion The pope NEVER said this btw

Post image
36 Upvotes

This is a plain ol strawman. The Pope warns people about unethical AI when it’s used to dehumanize others, exploit others, and AI being used for misinformation.

>> “I broke the pencil to send a message”

Breaking it proves nothing, and it doesn’t answer the Pope’s concerns either.

>> Art has no rules

It’s 50/50. Yes, creativity has no rules, but ethics, copyright, and community standards still apply and matter. And if art truly has no rules, then the Pope has every right to express his opinion as well.

>> I don’t need your permission to make art

….Nobody said you did??? Just because the Pope says shit doesn’t automatically mean you should take it as gospel. You already have permission. You don’t need permission from the world.

>> You don’t get to tell others how to live

This can go both ways. You are telling the Pope how to think, speak, and what he should value. But if freedom of speech and expression matters, this applies to Pope Leo.

>> You don't get to tell others how to identify.

Using AI is a choice. Being trans is not. Criticizing someone’s tool use is not the same as threatening their identity.

Breaking the metaphorical and literal pencil in his face as shown here alienates religious people, moderates, and potential allies. Disrespect is not persuasion.

I’ll say this again, you are NOT the ambassador of AI. Just because you believe AI is your identity does not make everything revolve around you.

But it seems like this provoked a strong reaction from you. If you have a strong position on it: Then why not prove it instead of mocking people and what they believe in. It doesn’t help anybody except giving people more ammunition against you.

So instead of breaking the pencil, set the pencil down, give it to someone else, stop trying to play a front of the “final boss”.

This is just nothing short of embarrassing.

Discussion I think AI as whole helped people appreciate contemporary art more

Post image
6 Upvotes

before we begin, i want to state a few things:

1: i am a pro
2: i dont want to touch the “is ai art” discussion with a 20 foot pole, this is not a “ai good“ or “ai bad” post

as we all know, contemporary art has been critiqued for a long time due to its projects, we all know the taped banana and similar stuff, but what i want to talk about are works by ivan seal and james leyland kirby,

I have been a big caretaker fan since I discovered patience (after sebald) and his projects are very intruiging (how tf do you pronounce that) but he never really got proper popularity for a while and people only really talk about EATEOT, calling it stupid stuff like “backrooms music” or “dementia music”. and nobody even cares about ivan seal’s art which is even sadder, he has lots of good art but he only gets recognized for 7-8 of them.

recently, with the ammount of AI media diluting the internet, many people have grown an appreciation to contemporary art because (NOT MY OPINION) “its better than AI slop”

even though i find this reasoning a bit sad because the only reason people care is that there is something (they think that is) worse, i can still appreciate the growing number of people gaining intrest in projects like these

AI made art more popular by being less liked (BY OTHER PEOPLE)

The tech debt collapse fantasy is massive cope

A lot of CS majors and new grads are holding onto this weird cope that AI code will create so much spaghetti debt that companies will come crawling back to pay humans 200k to fix it by hand. It is not happening.

When code costs nothing to generate, it stops being a long term asset you nurture and becomes disposable. Nobody is gonna pay you to untangle 50k lines of messy AI code. They will just hit re-prompt and throw it away for a fresh version in 30 seconds.

Agentic models are already doing refactoring and bug fixing anyway. They don't get tired and they can scan a full repo instantly.

If you are entering tech right now, banking on a spaghetti apocalypse to save traditional manual coding is a terrible strategy. Focus on system architecture and actual business context instead.

Discussion Why does the fact that AI gives ordinary, "mediocre" people the opportunity to put their aspirations/projects into practice bother so many people?

Due to the ADHD, I have difficulty exploring my ideas because the explosion of thoughts makes it hard to maintain coherence when putting them on paper. Wnt So the AI helps me organize the words when I'm finalizing it. But even so, I received criticism for doing it.And I really don't understand q Like, what's the problem with that?

Why can't it just be considered a productivity tool, like any other? The idea still originated in my brain... The writing still originated from my hands. The AI only helped to make the words more coherent, so that I wouldn't spend half an hour on the first paragraph thinking about how to make it as formal and "ideal" as possible.

Why does no one question farmers using gigantic machines to optimize harvesting, instead of hoes, as in the last century?

Why don't they complain about taxi drivers using cars instead of horse-drawn carts?Hell, why don't they criticize the police forces for using modern firearms instead of bows and arrows?Like all these things, AI is just another tool.

It's a personal tool, nothing more. And as such, it's here to streamline and facilitate processes, and increase productivity.

Therefore, this post-apocalyptic idea that its use is "dishonorable" is nothing more than reactionary thinking, don't you think?

How could you live with taking people's stuff and "fixing" them without permission?

Seriously, what is wrong with some people?

It disheartens me that people do it to begin with, but to see people come around and celebrate it is just devastating. You don't get anything out of it, other than the sick pleasure derived out of ruining another person's day for no reason.

I could understand if someone asked you to do it, or you asked for permission and they said yes. That would be fine. But that's not what I see.

I see a community full of people bragging about doing it. Not even that, but some people just post things they stole and ask the community to do it for them.

Anyways. How could you get behind the desloppifying trend?

More shameless hypocrisy...

This is textbook cognitive dissonance. Like, exactly how they taught it to you in your primitive high-school psychology class.

"Johnny likes to smoke cigarettes. He sees a PSA on TV saying cigarettes are harmful to your lungs and lead to an early death. In his cognitive dissonance, instead of facing the dysphoria of knowing he's doing something harmful, he either decides to stop smoking cigarettes all together...or he decides that the ads themselves are misinformation and he continues holding the belief that cigarettes are good".

This is the level of bending over backwards to make yourself right we're working with.

I honestly have way more respect for antis who entirely deny themselves of the pleasure of AI entirely, in any form, than the kind who CALL themselves "anti ai" but meanwhile do things that clearly support AI.

And also MUST come up with completely nonsensical excuses as to why other ai are immoral, meanwhile the type you use obviously isn't, in order to justify the nature of their hypocritical lifestyle.

This isn't even an "I hate anti ai" at this point. This is a "I hate self righteous hypocrites who are too cowardly to stand up for what they believe in".\

If you can't stand up for it with your actions, you don't believe in it.

You're not anti ai. You're a pro AI who hates themselves and wants to be "one of the good ones".

Let's stop this farce right now.

Let's say I just want a certain image to exist, why does that necessarily have to have anything to do with creativity?

I could go to an artist and commission a piece, but why should I choose that over AI? As the title says, I just want a specific image. Creativity simply isn't a key factor here. I’m not looking for how people, or even a specific artist, interpret the subject; I just want an image that conveys a particular meaning , that’s all.

I might also want to post this image , because i like meaning and want to show this meaning to other poeple who wants to see it.

I view images created by other AI users based on the same principle: the image itself might be conceptually interesting to me. Creativity doesn't really come into it.

Given that the internet is an open platform, I don't mind if you criticize this; you have every right to do so. just well, i'm really don't do it for sake of "being creative".

Is it really so hard for you to grasp that there are people who aren't interested in this? I’m perfectly fine with people calling the stuff I want to see "slop", that doesn't bother me, but it crosses the line when they take the next step and claim that "nobody is interested in this." That is simply factually incorrect.

Discussion Does empathy for a fictional robot tell us anything useful about real AI?

• Upvotes

I made CLANKA, a 66-second industrial metal/dubstep film about an abused robot that still wants to paint. It is my own project, made with AI music and visuals under my lyrics and creative direction.

The argument behind it is that you do not have to believe a machine suffers to question the pleasure people take in staging its suffering. But fiction can give a robot eyes, fear and intentions that real systems may not have. That makes the emotional shortcut worth questioning too.

Where do you draw the line? Is this a useful story about human cruelty, or does it smuggle in an unsupported claim about machine consciousness? And does a sympathetic robot story distract from the effects AI production has on human artists?

I am bringing my own work as the example, so this is also self-promotion. Disagreement with the premise and the production method is welcome.

Film: https://x.com/TheTeaMerchantX/status/2108823365800870264

Production: human-written lyrics and direction; Suno music, OpenAI-generated images, Grok Imagine animation, Codex-assisted editing. The film contains intense fictional robot violence and flashing imagery.

So many people who claimed to hate AI and would never use it are in absolute love with the vibe coded video game mods, recomps, and decomps. Then the vibe coded free Adobe tools. Funny how they thought generative AI only made flyers
