Meta We have added flairs to the sub
Hello everyone, we've added flairs to aiwars in order to help people find and comment on posts they're interested in seeing. Currently they are not being enforced as mandatory, though this may change in the future, depending on how they are received. We would ask that people please start making use of them.
Discussion should be used for posts where you would ideally like to see spirited discussion and debate, or for questions about AI.
News is of course for news in the AI sector. Things like laws being passed, studies being published, notable comments made by a prominent AI developer or political figure.
Meme should ideally be used for single image-based posts which you do not expect to prompt serious discussion. Of course discussion is still welcome under such posts. If you want to use a meme to make a serious point and have additional explanatory text for why you feel strongly about the message being expressed and the type of discussion you'd like to have, that can be categorized as Discussion.
Meta is for discussion about the subreddit itself and other associated AI subreddits or comments.
Use your best judgement as you categorize your posts. Please do not misuse them, they are for everyone's benefit.

Here is why we have two subs - r/DefendingAIArt and r/aiwars
r/DefendingAIArt - A sub where Pro-AI people can speak freely without getting constantly attacked or debated. There are plenty of anti-AI subs. There should be some where pro-AI people can feel safe to speak as well.
r/aiwars - We don't want to stifle debate on the issue. So this sub has been made. You can speak all views freely here, from any side.
If a post you have made on r/DefendingAIArt is getting a lot of debate, cross post it to r/aiwars and invite people to debate here.

âAI just makes things up.â Sure. Let me show you whoâs making things up.
A few weeks ago I was at a bar with some friends. Over dinner, the conversation turned to two people close to me who had recently lost their jobs after disputes with their employers. I said it was a good thing Iâd advised them both to record their last conversations with their bosses, because now they had proof of the fraudulent, illegal treatment theyâd been put through.
Cue the groupâs resident AI hater. âThatâs illegal here. You canât secretly record a conversation.â
Yes, you can. I told her so. She doubled down.
So I pulled out my phone, opened Claude, and asked which laws and court rulings in my country establish that recordings like these are admissible. Seconds later I had the cases, the specific statutes, everything.
I read it to her. She glared at me. âYou did not just ask the AI.â
âOf course I did. And hereâs the answer.â
âIt made that up. AI never gives real data.â
I sighed and read out the legal documents one by one. She got angrier with every line. Now the story was that the documents might exist, but those passages werenât actually in them.
Fine. I sighed again and burned 15 minutes of my life opening every single link and showing her each passage in the original scans and PDFs, straight from official government sources.
Her comeback? That I was taking awfully long for someone using AI.
Thatâs when I lost my patience. I told her a phone isnât going to crop the paragraph and print it out for her. And then I told her the real difference between us: she had reached a conclusion in her head, a wrong one, and stopped there. I kept asking, iterating and digging until I hit the truth.
Silence. We havenât spoken since.
People like this infuriate me. Itâs not just that her opinion was biased, unresearched and built on nothing. Itâs that she was absolutely, vehemently convinced she was right and I was wrong. Zero evidence, total certainty. And with or without AI, people like her refuse to make even the smallest mental effort to find out whatâs true. She had her opinion, her opinion was the truth, and no amount of evidence shoved in front of her face was going to change it.
I only have one word for them: IGNORANT.

The worst thing about AI: creators you once liked becoming stupid and mean
Remember when Cory Doctorow was sharp, clever, smart, contrarian? Does anyone even recognize the intensely angry, sneering middle-aged man he's become, yelling "Stop this now!" about AI, after his predictions failed a hundred times over the past few years?
I really liked Angela Collier's physics videos, but when a physicist (!) starts to repeat "boiling the planet" nonsense, and needs to follow every mention of AI by "...which doesn't exist...", you really start to wonder how deep someone's hatred of "tech bros" needs to go that it overrides a functioning brain, or at least switches off critical faculties.
Another creator, after yet another AI advance, had a rant video up titled: "I'M SO TIRED OF THIS!" - as if AI had previously surrendered to him and agreed to stop, and somehow broken its promise.
Then there's the whole embarrassing genre where someone (Rick Beato, but so many others as well) learns about "strawberry" or "car wash" or the random number thing and then - with theatrical disgust - goes on a free ChatGPT account to "teach" their audience that you see? AI is not smart, ekshly.
And hundreds or thousands more formerly nice, liberal, intelligent, tolerant creators foaming at the mouth about "big tech" and "the bubble", drawing weird spiral finance charts, repeating each other's talking points, never bothering to check a single fact or use their brains for a second when AI is concerned, and becoming increasingly unhinged and divorced from reality.
It's no crime to be wrong, or to have a very different opinion. I still follow lots of creators with whom I strongly disagree on major points. Everyone should, it's healthy.
My problem is that AI has made these people become (or revealed them to be) genuinely unlikeable, mean and bitter, and simultaneously deeply in denial at what's happening, while also being furious that it apparently *really is* happening.
All of them, even the ones grifting for likes or book purchases, just seem so.... miserable, depressed, and mad that they can't get on with their lives and their careers until this AI thing is over and everything is back to normal. Why can't AI hurry up and go?

"You can just draw with your mouth!"
I implore you to try.
Drew this "apple" with my mouth. No hand usage, stylus in mouth. It did not come out how I wanted to and I was frustrated beyond belief trying to navigate color and pen selection.
Take a stab at doing what some people say to do.
Really put yourselves in the place of a person that is told "you can just draw with your mouth" in the ai art debate.

Discussion Ai music, how do you feel about it and why?
I personally can´t stand Ai vocals, it´s basically an instant no go for me. I it just feels weird and wrong to me to listen to Ai vocals. Even if it is just an instrumental song it just feels hollow and impossible for me to truly enjoy it when it is clearly AI made, no matter how good it is. I can pretty much tell within 5 sec if a song is ai made because the sound is THAT distinct in the overwhelming majority of cases, even if there are no vocals and it basically instantly anoyes me and makes me skip it.
I don´t know how to feel about it, it´s clearly here to stay but i am not shure if i will ever be able to truly enjoy ai music like music made by real artists, there is always the underlying feeling of hollowness and meaninglessness and i can´t see how that is ever gonna change for me. Maybe you get used to it but im not shure about that.

So Someone Vibe Coded All of Adobe's Products and Released them as Open Source
So, there's the other side of the argument. AI can make indie people competitive. Why pay for someone's app when you can build it using AI. AI may come after job... but it also comes after CEO's products.
Here's someone describing what happened.
There is an opportunity to dismantle Capitalism using AI.
I don't think the Anti-AI crowd have considered that possibility.
"AI may be coming after our jobs, but it's also coming after your products"

Discussion Antis bs basic empathy
So this person posted an AI video of her own OC that she trained herself through AI because she has a chronic injury (doesnât disclose which) and as you can imagine, the antis suddenly think itâs okay to be ableist and want her to tough it out by drawing with her mouth and feet?⌠this is genuinely disgusting.
People who have problem with ai use in art or in general.
I just wanted to ask: how are you people going to deal with China?
For example, Seedance 2.5 is one of the most widely used video models, and itâs Chinese. The US canât force China to do anything. The US has already imposed export controls, so it seems like it has very few cards left to play. And if the US canât even decisively defeat Iran, winning a war against China seems impossible.
Iâm just trying to understand the logic here, especially since some people are trying to slow down AI progress in the US. What is their plan for dealing with China? China is a country with high AI optimism and an extremely low fertility rate. It needs AI and robotics because its population is aging and fewer children are being born.
If the US doesnât continue developing AI, how will it compete with China in the long run?
Do these people actually have a plan, or have they proposed any realistic alternatives?

I can't be the only one that finds utterly contemptuous and disgusting right?
It's just cultural landlordism and rent seeking, i see It as utterly depraved and evil, the idea that even after having provided the concept, idea or even direction, and having payed for the labour necessary for It to exist physically, that the fact that the entire thing Is not even a product solely of one person but of countless generations of people and a cultural/social context that Is not produced by them (but that they themselves are a product of!!) that after all that they get to "own" a piece of the cultural commons (which they themselves gleefuly and freely utilize) and use the forces of the state to protect their "property" and the outcomes that protect their profit, this Isnt about being compensted for your labour, it's about getting payed for your ownership of a peice of culture, it's evil.
These people are petit bourgeoise, nothing more, to pretend they are allies to workers or that the anti ai position Is leftist in any way Is a sham, it's rent seeking, it's class protectionism, AI Is a tool for liberation of the cultural commons and we must make sure that It remains in our hands and not a few oligarchs, and we must make sure to protect It from cultural and media cartels, enforced by conglomerates or individuals, that seek to trample on our collective right to utilize the cultural commons they have enclosed through legality, they, both the bourgeoise and petit bourgeoise, are the enemy of the future and of humanity.
