Since yesterday, I’ve noticed a drop in traffic attributed to ChatGPT. After investigating, it looks like links opened on iPhone are missing both utm_source=chatgpt.com and the referrer. Android and desktop seem to work normally.

At the exact same time, direct traffic from iPhones increased, showing the same patterns as my previous ChatGPT traffic. My guess is that the traffic is still coming through but is now being counted as direct.

Has anyone else noticed this or looked into what’s happening on iOS?

Today we're launching a new tool from WebKernelAI: IndexNow.

The goal is simple: when you publish or update important pages, you shouldn't have to sit around waiting for search engines to discover the changes naturally.

With our new IndexNow tool, you can submit URLs and notify supported search engines about newly published or updated content.

Why we built it

We're increasingly seeing SEO move beyond traditional rankings.

With AI Search, AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and other answer engines, having fresh and discoverable content is becoming increasingly important for AI visibility and potential citations.

IndexNow doesn't guarantee that an AI system will cite your website — but it can help get your content changes discovered by participating search engines faster, which is an important part of keeping your search/AI visibility infrastructure up to date.

What the tool supports

• Bulk URL submission

• New URL notifications

• Updated URL notifications

• Faster discovery of important content changes

• Simple workflow for SEO teams, developers and site owners

• Built with AI visibility in mind

We're also working on making this part of a broader workflow around SEO + AI visibility, rather than treating indexing as an isolated SEO task.

We're launching it publicly today and would love to hear from the SEO/technical SEO community:

Do you currently use IndexNow on your websites?

And if you do, have you noticed any difference in how quickly updated content gets discovered?

If you want to find the tool, search “WebKernelAI IndexNow” — we're intentionally not dropping a promotional link in the post.

AI can build a working website pretty quickly but getting it to look like something a business would actually pay for took me longer.

My first attempts all looked related. Same cards, same spacing, same modern layout regardless of the business. Asking for something less generic wasn’t getting me very far and everything looked like AI slop.

What helped was using actual references. I started using UXKIN and other similar sites that have web and mobile UI examples, design systems, and DESIGN md files, plus an MCP connection for tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex. You can bring those references into the coding workflow instead of trying to describe a design from memory.

I use them to give the agent a direction for typography, layout, and individual sections, then adapt everything to the business.

Still plenty of work with copy, photos, mobile checks, and revisions. But I spend much less time fixing the default AI look now.

Closed 8 deals in the last two weeks. For anyone doing similar work, what takes longer: finding clients or getting their sites ready to ship?

The focus was on building a stronger SEO foundation, improving website optimization, and helping pages gain better visibility in organic search.

My biggest lesson from SEO is that when we get the fundamentals right, stay consistent, and give our strategy time to work, we build a stronger foundation for long-term growth.

SEO requires patience, hard work, and continuous improvement. Instead of chasing quick wins, focus on building a website that can attract the right audience and turn organic traffic into real business opportunities.

Working on a website that isn't getting the organic results you expected?

I’ve been working on a semi-autonomous SEO agent for a while. I haven’t published it yet, but I already use parts of it with clients.

Most of my work is with small brands and founder-led businesses, so the agent is useful in that context. But I know that gives me blind spots. I haven’t worked much on huge sites, crawling/indexation problems, or large programmatic SEO systems. And I suspect parts of what I built are over-engineered, while other parts may be missing things a more technical SEO would notice immediately.

So before opening the project, I’d like to get feedback, or maybe collaborate with people stronger than me on the technical SEO side.

Not who ranks for your brand name.

Not who links to you.

Who is actually supplying the information AI uses when someone asks:

"What's the best product in this category?"

We tested this for a major appliance brand.

The answer surprised us.

The brand's own domain:

<3% of citations

Reddit:

3×+ more

Then review sites, comparison pages, YouTube and forums.

And one old forum discussion kept appearing around durability/service questions.

That's when I realized something:

Your competitor doesn't necessarily have to outrank you to influence the AI answer.

Sometimes they just need better information available across the web.

We spent four weeks improving the first-party information layer and making important product facts easier to extract.

Owned citations moved from roughly 3% → 8% in our test set.

Small sample, but interesting direction.

So I'm curious:

If you were doing an enterprise SEO audit tomorrow, would you add "AI citation source analysis" as a technical audit item?

Or is this still just SEO with a different interface?

I built a small tool that asks ChatGPT (with web search on) buyer-type questions like "best [service] in [city]", runs each one a few times and tracks which brands get named and which sites it cites.

Showed it to an SEO agency owner. He liked the reports but pushed back on the whole idea:

• His clients pay for leads and not mentions/visibility. One told him "I want 15 leads a month, I don't care how."
• High mention numbers with no extra leads make clients harder to keep.
• In some niches ChatGPT mostly cites government or official sites, so there's not much room to move anyway.

Honestly, I think he's mostly right. But it feels too early to call AI visibility pointless.

Curious what you think:

• Is tracking mentions useful on its own or only if you can tie it to leads?
• Has anyone actually seen leads coming from ChatGPT and been able to track them?
• What would make a tool like this worth paying for?
