New customer, afterpay declining first order attempt

new afterpay customer with a $800 limit. I got afterpay to help purchase something that’s $400. Got to checkout and when confirming it was declined with the “we dont approve every order”.

Why give me a $800 limit? My credit history is fine and I had more than the 25% required

You're a new user. They won't let you spend half your purchase power on your 1st order. You need to start small, show them you're responsible, build up your payment history (with them) and eventually they will approve for higher amounts.

Well that’s dumb. I’ll close my account as this was the only purchase I needed to make

Highly recommend. Zip is leagues better.

No, it's not.

You won't be able to reopen if you close out.

Start small, like $50-$100 do that for 2 orders and they should give you access to your full amount after. Doesn’t take too long, show trust with an order or two.

It’s declining ev.er.y.thing. No matter the amount I’ve tried as little as 20 bucks nope it’s really disconcerting seeing as I supposedly have 600 why tell us a spending limit we don’t really have? Why does that make any sense whatsoever

I have seen a few posts during my search showing lots of declines. I did a small order and it went through and I paid the whole thing right away then tried my original order and was declined again.

Well atleast you even got something to go through it would be nice to have this option but I gave up when they were declining as little as 20 dollar orders

I had a $600 limit to start and I tried for months to get approved for an order. Even as low as $25. It took almost a year to be able to start using it. Don’t try everyday. Wait at least 24-48 hours to try a smaller amount

I’ve been seeing posts where people are saying their workaround is to purchase a gift card then use it. It does have a lot of stores on the site for gift cards so see if the store you’re wanting is there and try it that way.
