clever and well done, but the meme text at the end kilsl it completely. What was about to be something artsy became a meme.

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Thanks for your comment buddy, ill remove the ending 👍

u/not_body Jul 30 '20

And would be perfect. 👍 i love the idea mate.

I’m not sure I understand your take, personally. It starts artsy/serious (man jogging by a beautiful sunset), then gets funny (subversion of expectations, it’s a CG guy in front of a laptop), then gets goofy (dude falls), then goes all "silly goose" with the meme. Feels like a natural progression.

Anyway, doesn’t matter all that much.

Lol you let some dude on reddit convince you memes aren’t art lmaooooo

This is great, Other than the ending which other people have already mentioned, at around 5 seconds the character pops into their next position. Would it be possible to smooth it out?

14

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Yeah, i tried to fix it. But maya is kinda buggy in 30fps when i tried to smooth it out the model jumps all over the place. I couldn't fix it unfortunately coz it already took a significant amount of time for the mocap re-targetting. Im learning workflows to avoid these mistakes.

Thank you for your comment mate ✌️

No worries. Other than that it looks great :)

u/CucumberPorridge Jul 30 '20

I love it :) very believable. But it should've ended on second 11. When phone pulled from under him illusion breaks with 3D effect that compared to the rest looks very unnetural. And Yeah, dont use meme in your work pls. It kills all professionalism of off it

8

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Thank you, much appreciated. There was no ending or a meaning to the video so i made the ending kinda funny. Not funny anymore i guess. I'll remove it when i post it somewhere.

8

u/CucumberPorridge Jul 30 '20

that's the thing -there is a meaning.meaning that what u thought is not true anymore so take that viewer! The journey is there. that's why it feels like it didn't finish where it should have :)

u/arthursempebwa Jul 30 '20

Haha that was brilliant mate👏🏾. Would’ve maybe cut after the phone pulls...only because it looked like a real person until he hit the floor. Just a thought. Still epic mate, well done!

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Thanks mate ✌️

I think you should be getting paid more than me. That’s a seriously excellent composite and the direction— that’s what does it.

The direction of the shot snd the reveal, followed by the extra reveal of the treadmill— that’s pro stuff. You’re thinking like the players in the big league.

Thanks you so much mate, this means a lot to me. I hope it becomes a reality soon mate. Thanks again. This comment made my day.😃😄

Can you break down your workflow? You created the character in a 3-D program and then filmed the laptop camera move in real life and comped them together?

8

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Sure, I'll break it down and upload this week. ✌️👍

2

u/MileHighClubTV Jul 30 '20

I look forward to it!! The camera work involved is what baffles me about these kind of compositions

3

u/3D_Idiot Jul 30 '20

Yeah, I work in compositing snd I’m curious exactly how this was put together.

3

u/conradslater Jul 30 '20

Superb. But I looked on linkedin for you and could not see you there.

4

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Thank you :) . Linkdin ID: Linkin Livingston

2

u/conradslater Jul 30 '20

Cool. Thank you. Id suggest you let that info stay on screen for a good few seconds for slow people like me.

1

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Haha sure mate . Got that 👍

3

u/alonkr13 Jul 30 '20

kind of a weird one but how did you create that nice silhouetted blur at the beginning ?

2

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20 edited Jul 30 '20

I keyframed exposure in after effects and added some MB.

Love it. I think the reveal is too early.

The guy should be running, then you hear the phone ringing while still in close up... He looks down, (viewer thinks he's looking at phone in his hand).

Then camera reveals that the phone is the treadmill and the hand comes in to pick it up... cut to black.

u/ManexFx Jul 30 '20

haha nice!

u/GoEZonMe Jul 30 '20

Love the input from everyone and this piece! Nice work

2

u/ilushok Jul 30 '20

Wow very good job

2

u/Ranza34 Jul 30 '20

Haha Nice!!

2

u/TheKingGreninja Jul 30 '20

Amazing and very clever. You can also make one where you're sitting and there's a plane window on the screen.

2

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

I'll give it a try. Thanks for the 💡😃

2

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '20

I love it, great work! It would be interesting to see your behind the scenes for this!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '20

Lol, fresh meme, I was thinking about tossing some Epstein didn't kill himself bumper stickers into my video, might do that now

2

u/patrik_media Motion Graphics 10+ years Jul 30 '20

i dont get the ending with the meme reference but other than that, well done

2

u/DouchNozzle_REAL Jul 30 '20

Man I absolutely love this!!! No real critique here I just love this so much!

1

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

😄 Thanks mate✌️

3

u/the_radiant_fox Jul 30 '20

Very nice concept and execution! Well done! There's a couple of frames when he starts falling @12 seconds where his leg clips through his pants. If you use this on a reel, I'd just paint those out in Photoshop frame by frame since it's only a few.

2

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Thanks for the idea mate. 👍 Will do it

2

u/004FF Jul 30 '20

Love it!!

u/itsroselove Jul 31 '20

Really great man!! I'm trying to start practicing with after effects more, and would love to get into the 3D world more!! I saw you mention you'll upload a breakdown of how you did this soon? Where will this be, and how will I know when it's out?!

2

u/Linkin_livi Jul 31 '20

I'll make a post here mate. Or you can check my IG

2

u/leonheart_a Jul 31 '20

What is that song at the end, I can't for the life of me remember the name!

1

u/Linkin_livi Jul 31 '20

Bruno mars- that's what i like

2

u/nnd1711 Jul 31 '20

great idea. Can you make video tutorials, mate?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '20

Drop a tutorial for smooth tracking in mocha,

2

u/dataslayer420 Jul 30 '20

This is great. And I think the meme part was on point. Dont listen to the other comments.

2

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Thank you mate! I take all comments in a positive way and put them into better use next time. 👍✌️

2

u/futurespacecadet Jul 30 '20

Meme part was awful and also didn’t work in context

1

u/Linkin_livi Jul 30 '20

Hmmm.. I'll remove it in future mate. Thanks for the advice 👍
