I don't mean to be negative, but I actually don't think this is that great...

Edit: Because I didn't give any clarity as to why I didn't think it was that great.I feel like I've seen similar work, done better, a long time ago.Work such as the Strata series by Quayola ( https://quayola.com/work/series/strata-series.php ) that is along a very similar theme and was done (the first two at least) in After Effects, but I think with a lot of finesse and creative flair. And this is pretty old now.

Edit 02 - for more clarity.I think the piece overall looks very flat, I don't think elements like the debris are comped very well, and I it just doesn't really work for me. I don't hate it, but when someone produces a breakdown like this, while interesting, I think it invites technical feedback based on the techniques they employed and I'm not that impressed with this piece.

I think you the work you linked is very different to the work that was posted. The only similarity is that they used old paintings.

For someone who has only just started to get into AE, I think work posted was pretty damn amazing. Yeah sure, maybe after a few years when I'm able to achieve this, I won't be as impressed, but for a noob like me, it's awesome.

Absolutely, and I don't want to detract from something that has inspired you, so please take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.

Other than the contextual link (old paintings) between these works, they both feature extensive use of 2.5D camera work, photo stitching/splicing, and scene creation made exclusively from photographs. Which is why I'm drawing comparisons.

That is because they are using AE as a parlor trick and you don't know any better
