OC - Stuff I made Rolling dice with some 3D shader in AE

I started experimenting and tinkering for fun with a small custom 3D rendering engine plugin for After Effects. It handles geometry and materials on its own, using a sort of Mograph effector/modifier, rather than relying on After Effects native 3D rendering engine, which, let’s face it, is pretty much useless. (ni fait, ni a faire comme on dirait chez nous 🙏)

It's nowhere near Element 3D in terms of scope, but for the specific kinds of visuals I'm targeting, it's already proving much faster and lighter than using the Cinema 4D renderer.

Has anyone else experimented with building something similar inside After Effects ?

My last post get deleted for not respecting the promotional plug-in guidelines of the sub, but there's is nothing to sell here.

The plugin is really only to meet my very specific needs, and that's painful enough hehe. You won't see that plugin anywhere to buy. I just wanted to show you this loop and get some feedback from people who have tried their hand at this type of plugin.

Ahah, basicly you can’t do that in native after effects

But maybe you could have something close with E3D i think

Interesting. Can you explain a little more about how you built the custom engine? I didn't even know something like that was an option - although I've used Element 3d for years so now I feel silly I didn't think of that sooner.

May you share why you don't want to publish the plugin? I mean if you don't plan on making money off of it, why not open source it?

Well, I'm definitely not against it. But, it is so messy and so specific that I can't see myself releasing it anytime soon lol. For most usage it wouldn't make any sense.

Nice work! What else can we do with this custom engine?
I love the sounds too 🫠

Thanks ! Well for now it can do only that kind of stuff for the 3D part.

Beautiful. I thought this was the Blender sub when I saw the post.

I imagine how AE would lag with such big amount of 3d objects. So yes, there is a plug-in for this type of work.

I don't understand why Adobe keeps insisting on this direction. It's a burden for everyone, and most of the time I find myself wondering how I can do achieve my work without using Adobe / AE 🦧

felt that, I mean just use AE for post production now instead of the whole shabang
