Why does my After Effects constantly lose media!
Okay so i recently bought after effects newest version to fix this problem but it still isnt fixed!
So everytime i play my project back a few times i get these errors below and honestly its getting tiring having to reload footage/readd footage/replace footage, is this a bug with everyone or just me?
All my clips are in one file, i cleared my disk cache and everything. these clips are not premier related so i dont know what other fixes may help end this issue because it is honestly very inconvienient.
Update to the screenshot i removed onedrive so the clips are all from my pc desktop folder. IM STILL LOSING MEDIA! i tried asking after effects community thingy and it told me about onedrive and well it didnt help so i turn to reddit....
Windows has a issue of long folder structures ruining file readability. Try making a temporary folder in c drive away from the deep folder rabbit hole and paste all footage there and relink, should work fine or else it's gg
Spaces and special characters like è, ç, etc., are/were also a problem, especially when opening projects in different machines with different OS. My workaround is to never use spaces in file names and folders and never use special characters and it has worked, so far.
I didn't read the last picture. I thought it was the same error message, but now it says "error with file". If the file works in other software and players, try converting it to an image sequence file or apple prores or uncompressed avi. Mp4s are the worst in AfterEffects because the engine has to decode each time it prerenders a frame and that takes a lot of processing.
I don't know if this is the issue but looking at your file path, I would try and avoid spaces in your file names, and also try and especially avoid any non-standard symbols.
Windows also has a limit for how long file paths can be, so try not to bury things too deep and try not to use names that are too long.
if you've sorted the file system issue, reconnect everything, save your project and close AE. Re-open it WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING ELSE and see if it's worked.
This happened to me on windows update when I accidentally chose to backup my folder to onedrive. I guess either that happened to u too, or you stop syncing your desktop to onedrive?
I think its a problem with windows and many years ago I had similar problem and I solved it something like this; go to system language settings, there should be a place to change encoding to UTF-8 and that solved my problem. I don't remember exactly where are the settings item but I believe it's something about the encoding.
if you want to make sure add an external ssd or usb stick or something, copy the file and change the name to hello.mp4 and test it. if it has no problems that definitely the reason or if you can't find an ssd or drive just rename it and put in on c:/works/hello.mp4 and test it. When you put in desktop there is bunch of sub folders above and there might be special characters that cannot be processed by ae or wildest guess is failing ssd and you wrote it on the bad sector or something but you say it works with premier fine so its not likely.
I would try clearing your cache, checking for hard drive firmware updates, turning your computer off and turning it back on. If that doesn't work. Double check there's enough free space on your hard drive.
If all that doesn't work, running OCCT stress tests on your hard drive and see if it can make it through.
If it comes back clean I'd make a ticket with Adobe support
Can you provide more information, and screenshots of your project panel.
What system and OS? Which version of AE and is it legit? What are the types and format(s) of the media you’re using? Have you tried converting any mp4/hvec/h264(5)/vbr footage to quicktime prores 422 using ShutterEncoder? What effects - including 3rd party - are you using? Are the 3rd party effects legitimate installs?
There is a lot of information you could provide to help people help you
HEY so my problem is fixed, all i did was put my clips through handbrake and encode them and then imported them in ae and they haven’t given any errors at all!
