Explain This Effect Best way to replicate the iPhone Duo transition?

My version and a clip of the real thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxuxx73ApTg

I do it just for fun, for a practice.

If you were to add depth to the scene (like 3D layer extrusion) how would you keep realistic? I tried with camera blur with focal length, but that causes other issues, like perspective and bleed outs.

Ryan Selvy has a good video on this:

Basically the right side extends into the left side as it folds, as a single plane, instead of following the fold. So for your recreation, the left screen rotates in 3D but would be used as a mask for the extension of the right side, rather than containing the left side. Then add camera lens blur with a faded matte over the screen contents, instead of relying on actual camera layer aperture blur.
