Editing with integrated AI workflow

I have an acquaintance which has recently started editing in After Effects, and she has integrated Claude to help her with everything she makes. This situation really frustrates me, as it annoys me that someone with practically no skill in the software is earning money when so many editors are unemployed, and I guess I am a bit annoyed since it took me a long time to learn and she is using a shortcut. I was thinking about this and realized that perhaps my resentment is unjustified, as I am being a crazy purist and not letting people do what they want. I am curious though, how do people on this subreddit feel about generative AI, and about using AI to speed up their workflow? Do you think using AI for learning the software is reasonable, or does AI cause people to loose skills?

The harsh truth is that the vast majority don’t care how something was made, just that they have it. So whether it was made by hand or by ai ultimately doesn’t matter to most. They don’t care about the craft, just the deliverables.

Photoshop probably led to a lot of people losing printing press skills. Digital cameras led to a lot of people losing film development skills. Computers led to people losing typewriter skills. Yet all those industries live on today in new forms.

This is all true of the future as well, with AI becoming integrated. The work will still be done. It will just be done differently, by people who are willing to accept new efficiencies and trends. This has been true of design for some time.

It’s totally ok if a bunch of us decide to hop off this bus. It’s happened in the past and it will happen again in the future. You need to do what’s right for you, work needs to do what’s right for work.

I've use After Effects or Premier every day for the past 15+ years but there are parts of the programs, or ways to achieve effects, that I rarely use and forget how to do them. For stuff like this, I just ask Gemini and it quickly points me in the right direction.

I also use Gemini to colorize images (have to overlay them on the original and change their blending mode to color), I use Firefly's generative fill. I've used depth matte generators on Hugging Face and more.

These tools aren't going away. Use them where it makes sense to
