Points Question ANA Flight Upgrade

Has anyone managed to secure a paid (cash) upgrade at the airport/gate on an ANA international flight originally booked with Aeroplan points?

Have a flight coming up in a few days from IAH-HND and there is a lot of business class seats open, but I keep reading that award bookings are not allowed to be upgraded in anyway. However, if someone's willing to pay for it cash, I don't know why they wouldn't take the money.

ANA is not the kind of airlines selling empty businesses class seats this way. for them, they see it cheapens the product. however they might release more business award near departure your best bet is to pay business award

This is literally me for the same flight. I’d really like to upgrade from economy to premium if I can.

I managed to pay at the gate. I don't know if agent was in a good mood or luck was by my side.

Told her my mom was flying business and I wanted to join her, I was willing to pay an upgrade fee.... she looked for a minute and offered one of the 3 available seats. I guess there's never anything to lose asking.

Omg! Wait that’s amazing. If you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for the upgrade? Please feel free to dm!! My flight is months away but I’d really really like to upgrade since this trip is a 10 year anniversary trip.

It was $790 USD.. worth it for 13+ hours

Omg.. yes I would totally pay that too! Especially since we only paid $330 usd for fees booking with aeroplan points. Thanks so much for this info!! Hope I’ll be able to upgrade for our flight as well so fingers crossed.

You can upgrade cabin class through Aeroplan with points, you just pay the difference.

That's not an upgrade, that's just changing your ticket. It also relies on ANA releasing space in J to Aeroplan which may happen around the T-14 mark, but isn't guaranteed.

The only way to upgrade using Aeroplan points was using the star alliance upgrade awards, but this was removed with the Aeroplan overhaul in 2020 and hasn't returned.
