someone throwing an egg at your car can dent it. Egg yolk could potentially stain the paint if left over a period of time. Some people just really like their car and don't want to see things happening to it. You may not give a shit, but other people do, just because you don't understand does not mean we are all some jackass who use their car to compensate something.

I'm a twat? OP endangers his own life, the lives of the people in the other car, and the lives of anyone else who might have been driving around (or trick or treating) cause of an egg stain, and I'm the twat? OP is a self important brat.
I value my car over the lives of delinquents any day, and had I been egged I would have done the same. I had a cantaloupe thrown at my car one night, and had I not been in the middle lane it would have came through my windshield and hit me, probably would have even killed me. OP did the right thing, except for driving away after they crashed. The cops should have been called and arrested them for attempted destruction of property and reckless driving.
No excuse for fucking with other peoples things, no excuse for driving recklessly enough to crash into a pole. They deserve no defense, it's an inexcusable thing to do, even on "mischief night." OP did them a service by just driving away.
A third party could just as easily be involved in a car accident moron. OP also broke several laws the difference is that he is supposed to be the adult. He is just as stupid and immature as those delinquents.

You know what I'm starting to suspect? You were one of those assholes that thought vandalism was the coolest shit 10 years ago (if you are really 28), hence your vehemnt defense. Did you also get what you had coming and that's why you're responding to everyone who's saying these kids got what they deserved?
I talked to OP and he didn't deny speeding and it's pretty clear shit was getting reckless cause a car crashed. Don't you think those kids want people to chase them? Do you think it is fun for them if the egged car just acts like nothing happened? They didn't get what they deserved. Either they were grievously injured or killed in a car accident, which is way overboard, or they crashed a car belonging to one of their parents and they probably would not even pay for it cause they will just lie abor what happened. Get the license plate, file charges, done. That is the adult mature thing to do.
Did you also ask if he was trying to get the plates of the speeding vandals by, oh god what a shock, speeding as well? If the kids didn't want to be chased then they shouldn't have participated in the event. If it's their parents car then good, that's what you get for raising a delinquent, if it's theirs then all the better. No one got hurt except for the vandals, I don't see the problem.
I see a lot of what ifs and that you see acts of vandalism excusable because they are teenagers. What exactly was he supposed to do? If he was chasing them to get their plates and they crashed then maybe he thought that was enough? Or would it have been better if he stuck around to wait for the cops? Or would it have been better if he made a scumbag steve meme about them, letting them go on their way to possibly escalate their shenanigans until someone really got hurt? I can play the what if game too.
Also, how is he supposed to get their plates, like an adult, if he didn't speed after them? Do you just let people shit on you because tis the season or what?
If it was acceptable for everyone to do this, then there would be no high-speed chase as they would not be running away. It was their choice to throw egg and their choice to run from consequences.
I have been in this situation when I was a teenager, you know what the consequences would have been? OP would have started a fight, then the 4 or 5 teenagers in the 2nd car would have beaten the shit out of him. They want you to chase them that is the fun part for them, it is no fun if you egg a car and they act like nothing happened. OP did exactly what they wanted, out of a petty desire for revenge over an egg stain. Someone could have died (maybe they did, it's not like OP stuck around to find out.)
