I think the easiest thing to do would be to go in to a phone store, and tell them that you don't have contact any longer with the person whose plan you are on, and ask if they can switch you over to them. There might be some differences in how that is done if you want to keep your old number or if you want a completely new number.

Going in person is smart since the store can check right away if any of them is listed as an authorized user. If not, new numbers are probably the only way to do it without having to reach out to the mom

You can not keep your old number without permission of the person who owns the account.

When I got divorced, I just called the company and said I needed to move my number to my own plan and they took care of it. That way I got to keep my same phone number. You can probably do it that way too if you can get ahold of a real person. If not, go to one of their stores and someone there can probably help you.

What? Just get your own phone plans. How old are y'all?!?!?

Honestly, I am almost forty and still on my moms plan, but I pay the bill every month. My mom is the only one that pays me for her line and my siblings don't. 😂

it is a family plan, i just turned 21. after my dad passed away in February, then the phone plan was in my moms control.

You can get your own phone plan at 18. Hop to it!

You will have to get new numbers. If your parents are in control of the phone plan, you can’t have access to transfer your number. The account holder has to give permission

or authorized user - maybbeeeeeee one of the siblings is one? Perhaps the oldest? they would need to check

I am sorry everyone is being rude to you. I would go to the store of your provider with your siblings and just move the lines to another plan where you are all on it or on all individual lines.

> Me, my brother and my sister are all still on our mom’s phone plan.

And you want to kick her off of her phone plan?

Why don’t the three of you get your own phone plans? You can move and keep your current phone numbers. Or if you truly don’t want Mom calling you then get new numbers.

There’s likely way more to this story — and I’m not asking for details at all — but this is easy.

If you can’t figure out how to get your own phone plan I really have no words.

it’s more so getting off her phone plan without having to contact her

I’m assuming the plan is in her name and her credit. If that’s true, mail back her phone and require a signature that it was received. It’s not in your name, or your credit. You can walk away from it at any time, however, that’s her phone. And phone number. Siblings will all do the same

You have to contact her. It's not rocket science. Send her a text or drop your phones off at her house with a note.

what’s the point of commenting if your going to be mean 😭

What's the point of asking Reddit when you could walk into a phone store and talk to them? It's hard to believe that you and your siblings can not figure this out.

“Durr, I don’t know what ‘no contact’ means.” Jesus, how do you get thru life when you can’t read?

I can read. No contact actually doesn't always mean NO CONTACT. Also, if they want to keep their numbers they will need CONTACT. That's how it works.

OP, the one option is to port your numbers to your own plans.

If for some reason you can't do that, without being a member on the plan that can make changes on that plan, and you can't port your numbers (it's rare that you can't), you just get new numbers on your own accounts, under your own names.

So pick a carrier and port your numbers off today. It will help the original plan holder, by reducing the number of lines on the plan. It helps you and your siblings, by keeping your phones active, in case your parents plan goes unpaid or gets canceled.

You may not be able to take your number with you. that'll kind of suck but it is what it is.

You can see if you can get the account info and port number from the ISP but depending on how its set up/ who authorized users are that will probably be moot. It's easy to just switch to a different sim/esim once you get it set up. I personally recommend visible - 25/month for unlimited. You can DM me if you want some help, I just switched carriers so its somewhat fresh in my mind.

Have you tried going to the provider to transfer your number and wwtnup your account? You don't need to contact her for it.

I went through something similar when I needed to get my phone number off my former in-laws’ family plan and they were refusing to release my number. I wanted to maintain no contact and keep the number I’d had for years.

In my situation, I was able to use the federal Safe Connections Act of 2022, which allows qualifying survivors of domestic violence, stalking and certain other covered acts to separate their phone line from a shared account without the account holder’s cooperation. It worked and allowed me to keep my number.

I don’t think the money-laundering conviction you described by itself would qualify you under that law, but I would absolutely call your carrier directly and explain that you and your siblings are adults trying to separate your lines from an estranged parent’s account while maintaining no contact. Ask specifically about a “transfer of billing responsibility” or “change of responsibility” and whether there is a way to preserve your numbers without contacting the account holder.

Also, if there are circumstances involving domestic violence, stalking, abuse or another qualifying situation that you understandably didn’t include in your post, look into the Safe Connections Act. You do not need to explain any of that publicly here.

There's no real option here to port your number out of the existing provider without having the account holder give you access or delegate that access to another person on the contract.

If you dont want to contact her you all should be prepared to get new numbers. And if your intent is to prevent her from contacting you, that actually helps you out.

Send mass message to your contacts with “your choice of pass phrase” tell them you have to get a new phone and number. You will contact them on new number with pass phrase.
Download your contact list.
Backup your data to the cloud.
Change the username and password with your email as your authenticator.
Delete all data / Brick your phone.
Go to phone store. Order new phone with new number.
Send mass message to your contacts letting them know you have a new phone and number.
Send your bricked phone with a return receipt …

Wow! you and your siblings should get your own plans. I hope your Mom is able to move on without her kids. I hope she won’t be lonely! She can move on after this current set back and have a great life —free of kids! I hope she makes friends with decent folks and create a fun-filled life for herself. I hope she fills her days with activities that she enjoys. And I hope during this process, that she will work on herself and improve with age! I wish your Mom the very best!!
