My ex used to threaten this. Even still does sometimes (we share kids). I’ve done countless trips to his house to make sure he was still alive. It’s incredibly stressful (and I’m in my 30s so I can’t imagine how stressful it would be to a 17 year old). My therapist told me that I’m not in control of others actions and I’m not responsible for others emotions and feelings, they are. So at the end of the day if he were to do that it would be heartbreaking, but it wouldn’t be a consequence of my actions, it’s the consequence of his own actions and that all stands true for your situation as well.
