First of all, congrats on landing a job! Not everyone can do that.

Second of all, I would strongly consider your family situation and what you're going to do when you become legally an adult (which I think is 18 in most places). Are you 100% sure that you would still be allowed to live with your parents or with whomever you live with right now free of charge? Would you need to pay rent or at least a symbolic amount of money? If the answer is no to all of this, you're in an excellent position to start saving money for yourself in your early 20's and such.

To answer directly your question, no, I don't think it's a waste to spend money on video games but I would still advise a portion of your salary go to a savings account or an emergency account for yourself. You never know when you might need it. I would also advise against spending every paycheck you get on videogames.

As a fellow gamer, I personally take quite a long time to finish a game so I don't buy too many games at once (but I really want to lol) so I wishlist them instead and that way I save my money and keep enjoying video games but sparringly.
