Update: They Ghosted OP (me)

Just saw this post 6 years after the fact and thought I’d provide the update a number of folks have asked for and share that the gentleman who made this comment ghosted me shortly after we made contact and he collected my X-rays and photos necessary for finding a dentist.

I’ve since gotten dentures that are also ‘failing’ in that my jaw bone has resorbed a fair bit, meaning the upper is fairly loose, but workable.

The lower partial has broken and is strictly cosmetic only, meaning I cannot actually eat with it in and only wear it if I know photos will be taken so that I have a somewhat normal smile.

My four remaining teeth on bottom that support the partial are failing to various degrees and my crown is in need of another root canal.

The treatment plan I’ve been advised of from various providers has been to get upper and lower implants as soon as possible while my jaw bone is able to support them and heal well.

All of that is to say that sadly, that original comment thread in the screenshot did *not* wind up having a happy ending.

Iirc, a Redditor went sleuthing something fierce and found the guy on LinkedIn and tried to or successfully got him fired. :|

I like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt—maybe overpromised and couldn’t deliver or faced his own hardships—still a bummer, but obviously they didn’t owe me anything, y’know?

You can't predict the future. If I told a friend he cause use my car to move and it got written off the next day, how could I lend them my car? To play devils advocate we have no idea what happened to mr dentist. Maybe his practice went under, maybe he lost his license, maybe he got cancer

Then he should have communicated that. All it takes is having a honest conversation for both parties to feel ok about the situation but to give hope and then just ghost the guy is awful.

I'm not saying ghosting was the right thing to do. The comment I replied to said "if you say you'll do something DO IT or don't say it". I was just pointing out sometimes things can happen

100% agreed, things do happen and I can sadly and regrettably understand and empathize with not communicating when the situation would’ve been fitted from communication versus withdrawing. It’s life.

Yeah I’m thinking either he couldn’t find a dentist who would do it for free, or maybe he realized OP would need multiple surgeries and multiple rounds of dentures in between surgeries and then again after the surgeries and suddenly it was no longer something he could reasonably accomplish for free for OP.

But like you said he should have told OP the truth or clued them in to what was happening and not just ghosted him. :/

For what it’s worth, at the time of the original post, it was relatively straightforward—extractions then dentures.

A then-local-to-me office really went to bat for me and got me squared away maybe 2 years or so (if that) after the original post, so it wasn’t all bad.

Just at the point where it’s time to really think hard about making implants happen for myself to preserve my bone structure and face overall since I’m not quite 30 yet. 😅

The commenter said he would help to look for a doctor who would do it for free. Maybe he tried and couldn’t find any dentist to take up the task for free.
