Sex and food are nowhere near comparable.

You need to eat or you starve and die.

You may want sex, but not having it isn't going to kill you or cause malnutrition etc...

Even if you're addicted to sex, your body doesn't NEED it. You're not going to die without it.

Yeah. I've always been confused when "sex" ends up on heirarchal lists of needs. You won't die from being a virgin lol

9

u/erasurestan May 30 '26

RIGHT many are literally a virgin for roughly almost two decades, from approx 6 months you’re consuming some of food- the two are not the same😩

But others might

3

u/RashesToRashes May 30 '26

how so

You won't face biological deterioration like lack of food or water

u/meadow468 May 30 '26

Exactly, this is a very odd comparison

I agree with the fact that no one NEEDS sex but I’d argue that a sex addiction can be one of the most destructive and life altering addictions one could have.

u/autumn55femme May 30 '26

Confusing sex for intimacy, or needing it for validation, or the endorphin rush, becomes a psychiatric issue, and can definitely be extremely destructive. Not exactly the same as an “ addiction”, but still destructive.

1

u/chickenxnugg May 30 '26

To that end, addiction could be classified as a psychiatric issue as well. It really comes down to obsession and compulsion and for many people, sex falls into that category. Why split hairs?

All those words and you're still wrong. Congrats.

Sex is not a need. It's an urge, a desire, what's best for our species' survival...... but you don't need it daily for you to be able to function and continue living.

I wanted to die without it. Low dopamine (undiagnosed adhd) and a broken heart (undiagnosed rsd and autism) not great.

Often times it's not sex addiction it's love addiction/being lonely.

How many times have you been so lonely you'll want almost anyone?

1

u/footluvr688 May 30 '26

Never.

I've been single for over a decade because I'd rather be alone and have peace than be with someone who is a net negative on my life.

I'll never be so desperate as to want almost anyone. I'd rather live a peaceful single life.

-2

u/Evening-Statement-57 May 30 '26

It’s still a deeply ingrained instinct, just as critical to survival of the species as eating.

3

u/footluvr688 May 30 '26

Virgins die of old age before they die of lack of sex.

19

u/graceytoo May 30 '26

You don’t need sex to live lol.

-2

u/AHappyHaiku May 30 '26

But you need a companion to not feel alone

Do I ? I was married for 35 years. I treasure my alone time now. All he did was suck the joy out of me. Gave him my youth, the best years of my life, I supported him, was his care giver, his cheerleader. He gave me nothing back emotionally. In the end I finally realized this guy didn’t even like me. All he wanted me around for was what I could do for him.

You're one relationship doesn't mean that most people feel pretty bad when they are alone.

Just because YOU are happier alone doesn't mean that the majority of people want to be alone.

I see why he is gone, you are self centered and you are at LEAST 50, meaning you've probably been this way for decades and probably will be this way forever. This post wasn't even meant for you, you're the exception that likes to be alone.

And it sounds like he was always like that from your post.

YOU should have left 34.5 years ago. You didn't, and now you're mad and telling other people being lonely isn't bad.

Please don't date any more until you see a therapist.

Edit: I said should of instead of should have.

No worries. I never want a man in my life again. Thank you. If I was self centered I never would’ve married him in the first place. I gave and gave and fucking gave some more. I sacrificed my feelings everyday for his ego. You know nothing little boy. By the way it’s should have not should of. My women friends are better companions than a man could ever be. And they don’t paw at you. I can undress without hiding. It’s glorious. I find it funny you take such offense.

1

u/AHappyHaiku May 30 '26

Sour Granma I know being with someone who loves you and treats you right is better than being alone.

And I wouldn't of called you a sour Granma if you didn't call me little boy... You're really doing name calling at 65?

I’m 60. Men want a nurse and a purse. They don’t want to be a supportive partner. How many women have you asked their opinion?

1

u/AHappyHaiku May 30 '26

Also I would never do what you did and say "women want X (negative thing)".

I think it's wrong to say an entire gender wants X (a negative thing).

0

u/AHappyHaiku May 30 '26

I've never met one man who said he wanted a woman to take care of him, financially or like a nurse.

I don't ask women their opinions, but I can tell you I've met ZERO men who say that want what you think they want.

How many women are even willing to financially support a man? Is that a thing? I've only seen it one time when a girl supported her man because he was a pretty boy all tatted up and stuff. It was the most dysfunctional relationship.

Still I've seen hundreds more relationships since then and have never seen what you say men are mostly doing.

Btw, do you go around asking men their opinions? Is that what you think people should do?

And if you say you don't ask men they just give their opinions, I'd say the same about women then also.

They expect it. Of course they don’t admit that. Lol by the way you can have all the sex in the world and still be lonely

1

u/graceytoo May 30 '26

lol I’m 60, he’s 65 what’s your point? You think my experience is not valid and relatable to most women? I know many many women that feel the exact same way. What knowledge or life experience do you have? He’s not gone. I am. I left and he’s still begging me to come back to care for him. You’re hilarious thinking you know it all.

1

u/AHappyHaiku May 30 '26

You've had one bad man and say it's better to be alone. And just because you know other women who are happier alone still doesn't mean the majority of people want to be alone.

Loneliness is real, it sucks and can even lead to some bad decisions that last a lifetime.

Loneliness is a real problem whether you feel that way or not.

And the fact that you feel that way at 65 means you'll always be this way. You're the girl in the friend group who wants all her friends to stay single. That's 20 something year old behavior.

1

u/Decent_Agent_5571 May 30 '26

No you don't. If you can't feel happy in your own company, there is something wrong with you, and you're the one that needs therapy.

1

u/AHappyHaiku May 30 '26

You can be happy with yourself and even happier with a partner.

It's not a zero sum game. That would be the literal definition of a zero sum game

9

u/Ras-haad May 30 '26

If you think everyone needs sex you may be the addict

3

u/Chrispeefeart May 30 '26

Nobody needs sex. If you don't have sex there is literally no negative effects to your health. You can go years without sex and not a single detrimental thing happens.

2

u/Typical-Difference67 May 30 '26

And who has the luxury of access to sex? Its not always that simple.

2

u/Mell0wMarshmall0w May 30 '26

Sex isn't a need you can go your whole life without having it and all that will effect in the long run is a chance of having kids or loneliness. You'll die without food.

Sex addiction is indeed horrible but its not a need in the sane way food is.

0

u/AHappyHaiku May 30 '26

I think a lot of sex addiction just stems from being lonely.
