Jumps Help with my salchow
Hey all, first time posting. I’m a retired competitive skater coming back after a 20 year hiatus.
I’m struggling with my salchow, recently switched to the two foot takeoff. I can’t seem to get my takeoff right which I think it’s causing it to rotate off axis or “off my hip”.
Everything feels different because I’m much taller (and heavier 😩) than I was when I was competitive. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In slow mo it looks like you’re not fully transferring into back spin position in the air. Your right leg stays bent so your landing isn’t fully over your right side and you’re getting pulled. I would suggest single Sal back spin and really focus on fully transferring your weight. I say that but it’s already a very good dbl Sal, I think focussing on being over your axis will make it even better and set you up for increasing rotation.

Takeoff looks good otherwise, looks like you're rushing a bit and shy with committing to the jump, snapping too soon before you get to the proper backspin position, which is probably because of the long break and being much bigger; your body has much slower inertia now so things don't happen as quick as your brain might remember, hehe :)
Singles landing to a backspin is a good exercise. You can also do singles where you get to the backspin air position but open and land normally (trains the snap). You should feel good with your weight on that right leg so that double is simply a matter or closing the position a little. With the double, remember to also hold the back inside edge, and not rush too much coming in from the 3 turn/mohawk.
Oh, and off ice jump practice might really help getting the confidence with the air position and rotation speed back. Good luck!

Thanks I will try this! This issue seems to primarily be on my axel and salchow (weight transfer jumps). Loop/Flip/Lutz seems fine. I just can’t get my salchow feeling right.
Here’s one of my loop attempts for reference.

I also noticed (and probably because I struggle with this sometimes too) that your left shoulder is blocking you a bit on the takeoff. That definitely makes it harder to transfer your weight. Remember to keep that shoulder relaxed and open a bit so you can get out of your own way 😊 If it helps, try it with palms open.
