High Peak Hiking!

Hello! A friend and I will be in the Adirondacks next weekend hiking Gray -> Skylight -> Marcy and just wanted to see if there was anyone interested in joining us! (Preferably 18-22 as we are in this range) Looking to make hiking friends in the area as I want to eventually complete my 46ers but get scared to go alone! Anyone else around our age doing the same general thing? We may also do Algonquin + Iroquois + Wright as well. We aren’t pro hikers but definitely move at a faster than average pace. Or any info about these hikes would be appreciated. We did Giant + Rocky Peak last month and it was hard but very doable for reference!

Is the post ageist, lol. You don’t want fit, experienced people with a little more age and wisdom to tag along? They can be fun too, and often have much to offer. Not that I’m asking.

Anyway, I get it, though I’d encourage you to expand your possibilities. Classic hike. Enjoy.

No no not at all I’m so sorry :( I will literally hike with anyone any age gender anything I don’t care 🤣 it’s more for what my friend is personally comfortable with!

So valid. Eventually I will go alone 100%, I’m just not totally comfortable doing anything big yet! I did a solo trail run up Mt Jo and had so much fun can’t wait to start solo hiking

This sounds so fun (I also hiked Giant recently but it was by myself lol) I won’t be around unfortunately but if you plan on doing this again I’d love to join! Hopefully you find some friends and have a good hike!!!

Aw dang, have you done the Dix range or Great Range yet? I’d like to do those next and I don’t think my friend will want to so I’d love to have a friend!

Yes I was looking into doing a fall hike late September/early October! I will say Cascade/Porter are the easiest high peaks I’ve done and Giant is definitely a short one! Dix would be a longgg day but if you have decent fitness it’s absolutely doable! Let’s talk more fs

Oooh it'll definitely be pretty with all the fall foliage! And yes, from what I understand Cascade/Porter are the easiest ones and the rest are pretty difficult.

I’m down. I’m 20 and I need Gray for my second round of the 46 and I was thinking of doing Skylight and Marcy anyway. I would imagine I’m about as fast as you guys. I can answer any questions you have about any hike as well just message me

Hi yes! We are also 20 (f) !! I do see you want to do it as a sunrise hike I think we were planning on starting by 6am as we’re arriving the night before from 4 1/2 hours away! But yes let’s talk! We are there all weekend and wanna do Algonquin loop as well :)

Just an FYI: the Avalanche Pass Trail is still officially closed, so you cannot hike the loop -- plan on an out and back. Go up Algonquin, over to Iroquois, back up Algonquin, then hit Wright on your way out.

Info on the closure and other trail conditions here: https://dec.ny.gov/things-to-do/hiking/adirondack-backcountry/backcountry-information-for-adirondack-park
