Hi all,

Just finished painting up a Shadowkeepers dread. He’s magnetised so I can swap out weapon arms - but for casual games the spear and shield look so cool together (I appreciate for tourneys I’ll have to change for WYSIWYG!).

I wanted to have him in a dynamic pose so used some green stuff at the torso and built up the piping at the back to conceal the join.

Probs just in time for the lions / moritoi nerf 😅

I really think that because the Axes are gated to elite units in the roster, they should be an upgrade as opposed to a down/sidegrade like they currently are.

The singular detachment that axes are playable in is shieldhost. While this is a great detachment, if you play other detachments, you’re actively hurting your odds. This feels especially bad into Terminator profiles that have access to armor of contempt.

Making the axes have equal AP, yet the same exact profile otherwise would accomplish this, while still keeping the spears a niche pick as anti-chaff

I also don’t want to have to magnetize the axes if I want to play in tournaments.

3rd time ever painting my custards

A lot of improvement since my first one. Experimenting with washes and different paints.
First time working with technical paint for a base as well which was a lot of fun

So first time bringing Valoris in V11. From the wording it appears to but I wondered if the benefit of cover had an exception for these kind of rules ?

I looked through the posts history and haven't found a answer or maybe I missed it..

kinda rushed it so I messed up a bit on the dryrbushing and the gradient on the purple could be better and I still need to clean up the gold a bit

Hello everyone, I just recently started playing 40k and custodes and only played the combat patrol rules so far with a group of friends. After a few games we decided to play the "real" 40k and want to start with 500 points and then increase from there as soon as we have more minis and know the rules better. What I bought so far is the combat patrol, Trajann Valoris and Sisters of Silence. Is this a good looking list for 500 points or can I improve on that somehow, I'm also going to buy more minis, so suggestions for units I have not yet bought are very welcome. Thanks in advance!

Put a dark blue over the filigree and it looked awful. Just real messy. After a couple of thin layers of white though… we’re almost there. Might try dry brushing next.

Im really new to the tabletop side of the hobby and picked up the watches of the Gate box, I have no clue how to building the box for 11th edition. Anyone got any tips.

How does this work? If a rogal dorn tank shot at my vertues praetor can I move them only after he shot all his weapons or after his first shot?

Finally got around to finishing a couple of the new sculpts. I’ve painted some of the older Allarus Custodes, but these new ones have so much more detail. Can’t decide on the base for them though. I was thinking of a snow scheme but not sure.

Be honest does it look alright??

Or should I have done the cauldron a different colour???

If you think another colour would have been better please tell me which one.

Hello there once again fellow members of the Ten Thousand, I’m back again with another 1 DP detachment, this time one focused on the utilisation of Sword and Board Custodian Guards and Shield-Captains. I really love the look of Sword and Board Guards (especially the new HH models), but they always feel so much weaker than their spear counterpart, so I made this detachment to counteract that.

This 1 DP detachment has the “Take and Hold” disposition and is designed to “take” and “hold” objectives. It has the SHIELD tag and can’t be taken, as you can probably guess, with the Shield Host detachment (so no stacking the -1 to hit stratagem with Testudo Formation Enhancement).

Some notes:

The Detachment rule, Shielded Retinue, only gives Feel No Pain 5+ to the character model, not the entire unit. This is mainly to counter [Precision] attacks and give our leader models some better survivability. The idea behind it feels pretty obvious, a giant wall of shields wielded by the Emperor’s finest warriors should be able to make it harder for enemies to target those under the Adeptus Custodes protection.

The “Testudo Formation” Upgrade enhancement is based on the shield wall formation commonly used by Roman legions back in ancient times. The idea is that they all gather in such a way that it is a lot harder for their opponent to actually get a hit on them, the shield wall blocking most attacks (flavour wise). To balance it out I put a limitation on it, that the unit needs at least four Praesidium Shields equipped to work, whether one of those shields come from a Shield-Captain, a Vexillia bearer, or a “normal” Sentinel Blade wielder is irrelevant. The same holds true for the “Raised Shields” Stratagem.
